Schleswig Party
The Schleswig Party ( da, Slesvigsk Parti, german: Schleswigsche Partei) is a regional political party in Denmark representing the North Schleswig Germans. History The party was established in August 1920 as the Schleswig Voters Club (german: Schleswigscher Wählerverein) following the Schleswig Plebiscites and the ceding of Northern Schleswig from Germany to Denmark. Carsten Leth Schmidt
Carsten Leth Schmidt (born 3 December 1968 in Haderslev) is a politics of Denmark, Danish politician. He has been the leader of Schleswig Party since 2012, and has been a part of the municipal council in Haderslev Municipality since 2017. He is a farmer, and lives in the village of Sønderballe in Haderslev Municipality. Political career Schmidt first ran in local elections in the 2005 Danish local elections, but was first elected in the 2017 Danish local elections, 2017 elections where he entered the municipal council of Haderslev Municipality. 1943 Danish Folketing Election
Folketing elections were held in Denmark on 23 March 1943 alongside Landsting elections, Dieter Nohlen & Philip Stöver (2010) ''Elections in Europe: A data handbook'', p524 except in the Faroe Islands where they were held on 3 May. They were the first and only elections held during the German occupation, and although many people feared how the Germans might react to the election, the event took place peacefully. The voter turnout was at 89.5%, the highest of any Danish parliamentary election, and became a demonstration against the occupation. The Social Democratic Party remained the largest in the Folketing, with 66 of the 149 seats. After the elections, leading German newspapers expressed disappointment and indignation with the lack of political evolution among the Danish voters. The Communist Party of Denmark had been banned since 1941 and could not participate in these elections. 95% of the vote went to the four biggest, traditional democratic parties. They followed a dissolution of both chambers in order to call a referendum on changing the constitution. The referendum was held on 23 May but failed due to a low voter turnout.
