Schlangensonne
Eisregen is a German death metal/black metal band formed in 1995. The members are from Tambach-Dietharz, a village in Thuringia. History In English, Eisregen translates to "ice rain". By using morbid German lyrics unlike those of other bands of this genre, Eisregen got the attention of German authorities, causing the ban by the Federal Department for Media Harmful to Young Persons of three of their albums in Germany. Eisregen originally planned to disband after releasing a final album called ''Menschenmaterial'' ("human resources", as in mineral/natural resources, a dehumanizing reference to "spendable" humans), but announced that they will continue to work together. Musical style Eisregen's old albums were more black metal-influenced than the newer ones. The violin parts, now typical for the band, came with 1998's ''Krebskolonie'' ("cancer colony"), considered the band's best album by many of their fans. Censorship Unlike regular banning (referred to as "indexing"), whi ...

Melodic Death Metal
Melodic death metal (also referred to as melodeath) is a subgenre of death metal that employs highly melodic guitar riffs, often borrowing from traditional heavy metal (including New Wave of British Heavy Metal). The genre features the heaviness of death metal but with highly melodic or harmonized guitar riffs and solos, and often features high-pitched shrieked vocals (differing from traditional death metal) alongside the low-pitched growls commonly featured in traditional death metal. Pioneered by the English heavy metal band Carcass with their 1993 album ''Heartwork'', melodic death metal developed further in Sweden (developed by bands like At the Gates, Dark Tranquillity, and In Flames) in the mid-1990s. The Swedish death metal scene did much to popularise the style, soon centering in the "Gothenburg metal" scene. At the Gates' ''Slaughter of the Soul'', Dark Tranquility's '' The Gallery'', and In Flames' ''The Jester Race'', all released in the mid-1990s, were highly influen ...

Gothic Metal
Gothic metal (or goth metal) is a fusion genre combining the aggression of heavy metal with the dark atmospheres of gothic rock. The music of gothic metal is diverse with bands known to adopt the gothic approach to different styles of heavy metal music. The genre originated during the early 1990s in the United Kingdom originally as an outgrowth of death-doom, a fusion of death metal and doom metal. Lyrics are generally dark and introspective with inspiration from gothic fiction as well as personal experiences. Pioneers of gothic metal include Paradise Lost, My Dying Bride and Anathema, all from the north of England. Other pioneers from the first half of the 1990s include Type O Negative from the United States, Lake of Tears, Tiamat and Katatonia from Sweden, and the Gathering from the Netherlands. Norwegian band Theatre of Tragedy developed the "beauty and the beast" aesthetic of combining aggressive male vocals with clean female vocals, a contrast that had been adopted by ...

Brummbär
The ''Sturmpanzer'' (also known as ''Sturmpanzer 43'' or ''Sd.Kfz. 166'') was a German armoured infantry support gun based on the Panzer IV chassis used in the Second World War. It was used at the Battles of Kursk, Anzio, Normandy, and was deployed in the Warsaw Uprising. It was known by the nickname ''Brummbär'' (German: "Grouch") by Allied intelligence, a name which was not used by the Germans. German soldiers nicknamed it the "''Stupa''", a contraction of the term Sturmpanzer. Just over 300 vehicles were built and they were assigned to four independent battalions. Development The ''Sturmpanzer'' was a development of the Panzer IV tank designed to provide a vehicle offering direct infantry fire support, especially in urban areas. It used a Panzer IV chassis with the upper hull and turret replaced by a new casemate-style armoured superstructure housing a new gun, the ''Sturmhaubitze'' (StuH) 43 L/12 developed by Skoda. It fired the same shells as the 15 cm sIG 33 heavy infant ...
