Avatar (band)
Avatar is a Swedish heavy metal band, formed in Gothenburg in 2001. The band has released eight studio albums, the most recent being ''Hunter Gatherer'' in 2020. The band has had some success on US rock radio, notably with their song " New Land", which peaked at number 20 on the '' Billboard'' Mainstream Rock Songs chart in May 2017. History Formation and early releases (2001−2010) The band was formed in 2001 by drummer John Alfredsson and guitarist Jonas Jarlsby, who at the time were in separate bands. After several lineup changes, the band released two four-song EP demos in 2004: Personal Observations released on 18 January 2004 and 4 Reasons to Die on 19 November 2004. Melodic Death Metal
Melodic death metal (also referred to as melodeath) is a subgenre of death metal that employs highly melodic guitar riffs, often borrowing from traditional heavy metal (including New Wave of British Heavy Metal). The genre features the heaviness of death metal but with highly melodic or harmonized guitar riffs and solos, and often features high-pitched shrieked vocals (differing from traditional death metal) alongside the low-pitched growls commonly featured in traditional death metal. Pioneered by the English heavy metal band Carcass with their 1993 album ''Heartwork'', melodic death metal developed further in Sweden (developed by bands like At the Gates, Dark Tranquillity, and In Flames) in the mid-1990s. Heavy metal (or simply metal) is a genre of rock music that developed in the late 1960s and early 1970s, largely in the United Kingdom and United States. With roots in blues rock, psychedelic rock and acid rock, heavy metal bands developed a thick, monumental sound characterized by distortion (music), distorted guitars, extended guitar solos, emphatic Beat (music), beats and loudness. Björn Gelotte
Björn Gelotte (born 27 August 1975) is a Swedish musician and songwriter, best known as the lead guitarist for heavy metal band In Flames. He originally joined the band as the drummer in 1995, and continued in this position during ''The Jester Race'' (1996) and ''Whoracle'' (1997). He switched to his current position on lead guitar after Glenn Ljungström left the band and played solely guitars since '' Colony '' (1999), sharing lead/rhythm guitar work with former In Flames guitarist Jesper Strömblad. In March 2004, Gelotte (along with Jesper Strömblad) was both ranked No. 70 out of 100 Greatest Heavy Metal Guitarists of all time by Guitar World. Other projects Before joining In Flames, Gelotte was a member of Flesh of Sights.
