Schienen-Straßen-Omnibus
The Schienen-Straßen-Omnibus ( from German), also known as the "Schi-Stra-Bus", was a railroad bus for passenger traffic on railway lines and roads. The Deutsche Bundesbahn (DB) used it both as a railbus and as a bus in Germany. Description The Schi-Stra-Bus is similar to a railbus; it is a special motor omnibus, omnibus with all the equipment necessary for road traffic. The Schi-Stra-Bus was equipped with a diesel engine from Klöckner-Humboldt-Deutz with an output of , enabling speeds of up to on the road and on rails. The vehicles had 43 seats and 15 to 24 standing places. The car was a one-way vehicle but was equipped according to the regulations of rail traffic. Road–rail Vehicle
A road–rail vehicle or a rail–road vehicle is a dual-mode vehicle which can operate both on rail tracks and roads. They are also known as two-way vehicles (german: Zweiwegefahrzeug), hi-rail (from ''highway'' and ''railway'', or variations such as high-rail, HiRail, Hy-rail), and rail and road vehicles. They are often converted road vehicles, keeping their normal wheels with rubber tires, but fitted with additional flanged steel wheels for running on rails. Propulsion is typically through the conventional tires, the flanged wheels being free-rolling, used to keep the vehicle on the rails; the rail wheels are raised and lowered as needed. There are also purpose-built road–rail vehicles. In case of jeep trains, road wheels are directly replaced with railway wheels.
