Fernando Scherer
Fernando de Queiroz Scherer (born October 6, 1974) is a Brazilian former international swimmer. He won the bronze medal in the 50-meter freestyle at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta and another bronze medal four years later in Sydney with the Brazilian relay team in the 4×100-meter freestyle. Scherer won his first major title at the inaugural 1993 FINA Short Course World Championships in Palma de Mallorca, where he won the 100-meter freestyle. He trained at The Race Club, a swimming club founded by Olympic swimmers Gary Hall, Jr. and his father, Gary Hall, Sr. as a training group for elite swimmers in preparation for the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games. Scherer is nicknamed ''Xuxa'' in his native country, and he became Brazil's Sportsman of The Year in 1995 after winning one gold and one silver medal at the 1995 FINA Short Course World Championships in Rio de Janeiro. Hermann Scherer
Hermann Scherer (8 February 1893– 13 May 1927) was a German-speaking Swiss Expressionist painter and sculptor. Life Hermann Scherer was born in Rümmingen, Baden-Württemberg in 1893. After leaving school in 1907, Scherer began an apprenticeship as a stonemason at the Schwab workshop in Lörrach. From 1910 to 1919 he worked as a stonemason with a series of Basel sculptors: Carl Gutknecht, Otto Roos and Carl Burckhardt. By working as a labourer and later assistant for Roos, he was able to pay for a small workshop. In 1919, Scherer took a new contemporary approach to art (and painting), and destroyed many of the works he had previously made. From 1921 to 1922 he was influenced by the work of the German painters Erich Heckel, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner and Karl Schmidt-Rottluff. Bee Scherer (born Burkhard Scherer, May 21, 1971) professor of gender studies and religious studies at Canterbury Christ Church University, U.K. Professor Scherer is the director of INCISE (Intersectional Centre for Inclusion and Social Justice), which facilitates social justice research, and founded Queering Paradigms. Career Scherer studied classics (Greek and Latin) and Indian Religions (Hinduism and Buddhism) at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster. They received their doctorate in 2002 from the Dutch University of Groningen with a study on ancient literature and mythology. Relevant publications on Buddhism and world religions followed. Alfredo Scherer
Alfredo Vicente Scherer (5 February 1903–9 March 1996) was a German-Brazilian cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church. He served as Archbishop of Porto Alegre, Brazil from 1946 to 1996, and was elevated to the cardinalate in 1969. Biography Alfredo Vicente Scherer was born in Bom Princípio, Rio Grande do Sul, as the second child of Peter and Anna (née Opermann) Scherer. He was a distant relative of Cardinal Odilo Scherer, who became Archbishop of São Paulo in 2007. He studied at the seminary in Porto Alegre and the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, where he was ordained to the priesthood on April 3, 1926. Georg Scherer (1540 – 30 November 1605) was a Roman Catholic pulpit orator and controversialist. Born at Schwaz, in Tyrol, Scherer entered the Society of Jesus in 1559. Even before his ordination he was famed for his preaching powers. For over forty years he labored in the Archduchy of Austria. To Scherer, in part, it owes the retention of the faith. In 1577 he was Court preacher to the Archduke Matthias; he retained the post until 1600. In 1590 he was appointed Rector of the Jesuit College at Vienna; the sternness of his character scarcely fitted him for the office, and he was transferred (1594) to Linz. The story of his being struck blind in the pulpit, after having exclaimed: "If the Catholic Church is not the True Church, may I become blind," is a pure invention. Emanuel Scherer (1901 – 5 May 1977) was a Polish politician. Life Emanuel Scherer graduated from the Jagiellonian University in Kraków, and became active in the Bund youth movement there. Later he moved to Warsaw, where he continued to be an active politician in the Bund party, in 1935 joining its Central Committee. In 1938 he was elected to the Warsaw City Council. During World War II Scherer was able to escape to the West, where he took part in the work of the Polish government in exile. Scherer (1870–1944) served as the last President (education), President of the Throop Polytechnic Institute from 1908 to 1920 prior to its renaming to the California Institute of Technology in 1921. Before being asked by George Ellery Hale to serve as President of Throop, Scherer was a Lutheran minister, one of the founders of the Japan Evangelical Lutheran Church.
