Paul Schellekens
Paulus Wilhelmus Adrianus (Paul) Schellekens (born 1951) is a civil servant and diplomat in the Netherlands. Schellekens began his career as assistant legal advisor at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Netherlands). From 1994 to 1998 he was the consul general in Toronto (Canada), Toronto, Canada. From 1998 to 2002, Schellekens was head of the political department and minister plenipotentiary to the Netherlands embassy in Beijing, China, and from 2002 to 2006 he served as the Netherlands ambassador to Peru. Schellekens became director of the Queen's Office on 1 September 2006. He was preceded by Felix Rhodius. On 27 January 2012, it was announced that Paul Schellekens was appointed to the post of Netherlands ambassador to Dublin in Ireland. He took up this position in the summer of 2012. Elisabeth Schellekens is a Swedish philosopher and Chair Professor of Aesthetics at Uppsala University (since 2014). Previously, she was Senior Lecturer at Durham University (2006-2014). Schellekens is known for her works in aesthetics. Her research interests include aesthetic cognitivism and objectivism, aesthetic normativity, Hume, Kant, aesthetic and moral properties, conceptual art, non-perceptual or intelligible aesthetic value, the relations between perception and knowledge, the aesthetics and ethics of cultural heritage (esp. in armed conflict), and the interaction between aesthetic, moral, cognitive and historical value in art. Godfried Schalcken (1643 – 16 November 1706) was a Dutch genre and portrait painter. He was noted for his mastery in reproducing the effect of candlelight, and painted in the exquisite and highly polished manner of the Leiden fijnschilders. Life and work Godfried Schalcken was born in Made, North Brabant, the son of Cornelis Schalcken and Aletta Lydius. Before he was four years old, his family moved to Dordrecht, where his father became rector of the Latin school. Schalcke studied under Samuel van Hoogstraten in Dordrecht before he moved to Leiden, into the studio of Gerard Dou (1613–1675), one of Rembrandt's most famous pupils. His earlier genre pictures very closely resemble Dou's work.
