Scott Alexander Scheffler (born June 21, 1996) is an American professional golfer who plays on the PGA Tour. From March to October 2022, he was World Number 1 in the Official World Golf Ranking. He won the 2022 Masters Tournament. Early life Scheffler was born to Diane and Scott Scheffler in Ridgewood, New Jersey, and lived in Montvale, New Jersey, until age six, when the family moved to Dallas, Texas, in the wake of the September 11 attacks. Angelus Silesius (9 July 1677), born Johann Scheffler and also known as Johann Angelus Silesius, was a German Catholic priest and physician, known as a mystic and religious poet. Born and raised a Lutheran, he adopted the name ''Angelus'' (Latin for "angel" or " heavenly messenger") and the epithet ''Silesius'' (" Silesian") on converting to Catholicism in 1653. While studying in the Netherlands, he began to read the works of medieval mystics and became acquainted with the works of the German mystic Jacob Böhme through Böhme's friend, Abraham von Franckenberg. Silesius's mystical beliefs caused tension between him and Lutheran authorities and led to his eventual conversion to Catholicism. He took holy orders under the Franciscans and was ordained a priest in 1661. Ten years later, in 1671, he retired to a Jesuit house where he remained for the rest of his life. He is best known for his cartoon-like pictures for children's books, in particular ''The Gruffalo'' and ''The Gruffalo's Child'', written by Julia Donaldson. He has also authored/illustrated the ''Pip and Posy'' series of books for children. Early life Scheffler was born on 12 December 1957 in Hamburg, West Germany. János Scheffler (german: Johann Scheffler; 29 October 1887 – 6 December 1952) was a Hungarian-born Roman Catholic prelate who served as the bishop of two dioceses before acting as the Bishop of Oradea Mare. He was imprisoned due to opposing the Communist government policies and was killed while imprisoned. He had been noted during his episcopate for his attentiveness to vocations and to the defense of the faith from those forces that sought to disrupt it such as communism. Theodore J. Scheffler (April 5, 1864 – February 24, 1949) was an American professional baseball player whose career spanned from 1885 to 1902. He played two seasons in Major League Baseball as an outfielder for the Detroit Wolverines in 1888 and the Rochester Broncos in 1890. Early years Scheffler was born in New York City in 1864. In 1887, he drew attention when he compiled a .429 batting average for the Manchester Farmers in the New England League. Major leagues On August 3, 1888, the Detroit Wolverines of the National League purchased Scheffler from the Manchester club. He appeared in only 27 games for Detroit and compiled a .202 batting average. Career Born in St. Joseph, Michigan, Scheffler played collegiately at Purdue University before spending most of his career in Europe playing in Italy, Spain, Greece, Switzerland, and France. Erna Scheffler, born Friedental and later Haßlacher (21 September 1893, in Wroclaw – 22 May 1983, in London) was a German senior judge. Education and early career Erna Friedental attended the girls' schools in Legnica and Wroclaw and gained her baccalaureate in Racibórz in 1911. She studied for a semester at Heidelberg University and then switched from medicine to law in Wroclaw, Munich and Berlin. In December 1914 she finished her studies with a doctorate from Wroclaw. Women were not yet permitted to take the state legal exams, so she initially worked in social welfare and then as an assistant at a law practice. Christoph Thomas Scheffler Christoph Thomas Scheffler (sometimes written ''Schäffler'', December 20, 1699 – January 25, 1756) was a German painter of the rococo period. He is best known for his frescoes. Scheffler was born in Mainburg and learned the trade of a painter from his father Wolfgang Scheffler. Between 1719 and 1722, he worked as a journeyman for Cosmas Damian Asam. In 1722, he joined the Jesuit Order as a lay brother and painted several churches for the order. After he had left the order in 1728, he settled in Augsburg, where he died in 1756. Among his works are the frescoes of the church in Heusenstamm, which was built by Balthasar Neumann for the Schönborn-Heusenstamm family, and those of the St. Paulinus' Church in Trier, funded by Elector Franz Georg von Schönborn.
