Schaumburg Regional Airport is a public use airport located northwest of Chicago in the village of Schaumburg in Cook and DuPage counties, Illinois, United States. The airport is owned by the Village of Schaumburg and is just south of the Schaumburg Municipal Helistop. Facilities and aircraft Schaumburg Regional Airport covers an area of at an elevation of 801 feet (244 m) above mean sea level. It has one runway designated 11/29 with a concrete surface measuring 3,800 by 100 feet (1,158 x 30 m). There is one FBO, Revv Aviation, located at the airport. 123 aircraft were based at Schaumburg Airport as of September 1, 1974. The PA-20 Pacer and PA-22 Tri-Pacer, Caribbean, and Colt are an American family of light aircraft, light strut-braced high-wing monoplane aircraft built by Piper Aircraft from 1949 to 1964. A precision approach path indicator (PAPI) is a visual aid that provides guidance information to help a pilot to acquire and maintain the correct approach (in the vertical plane) to an airport or an aerodrome. It is generally located on the left-hand side of the runway approximately 300 meters beyond the landing threshold of the runway. Development The precision approach path indicator system was first devised in 1974 by Tony Smith and David Johnson at the Royal Aircraft Establishment in Bedford, England. It took them a further two years to fully develop the technology.
