The House of Schallenberg is the name of an old and important Austro-Hungarian noble family, whose members occupied may important political positions and were in diplomatic service. History The family hails from Sankt Ulrich im Mühlkreis, where it is known since 1190. ''Heinricus de Schalinberc'' is mentioned in 1260, adopting the name after the Schallenberg Castle. In 1636 the Schallenbergs were raised to baronial rank and in 1666 they were raised to comital rank in the Habsburg Hereditary Lands. The family received the Hungarian Indigenat and were recognized as nobles of the Kingdom of Hungary by the Diet of Hungary in 1688. From 1720 to 1803 was owned by the family. Diet Of Hungary
The Diet of Hungary or originally: Parlamentum Publicum / Parlamentum Generale ( hu, Országgyűlés) became the supreme legislative institution in the medieval kingdom of Hungary from the 1290s, and in its successor states, Royal Hungary and the Habsburg kingdom of Hungary throughout the Early Modern period until the end of World War II. The name of the legislative body was originally "Parlamentum" during the Middle Ages, the "Diet" expression gained mostly in the Early Modern period. It convened at regular intervals with interruptions from the 12th century to 1918, and again until 1946. The articles of the 1790 diet set out that the diet should meet at least once every 3 years, but, since the diet was called by the Habsburg monarchy, this promise was not kept on several occasions thereafter. Alexander Schallenberg
Alexander Georg Nicolas Schallenberg (; born 20 June 1969) is an Austrian diplomat, jurist and politician who has served as Minister of Foreign Affairs in the government of Chancellor Karl Nehammer since 2021, previously holding the office from 2019 to 2021. A member of the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP), he held the position in the second government of Sebastian Kurz, before briefly serving as Chancellor of Austria as Kurz's successor from 11 October to 6 December 2021. A member of the Schallenberg family and a graduate of the College of Europe, Schallenberg was a career diplomat who became a mentor to Kurz when the latter became foreign minister. Kurz appointed him director of strategic foreign policy planning and head of the European department. Schallenberg joined the cabinet as foreign minister in 2019. Wolfgang Schallenberg
Wolfgang Schallenberg gcYC (3 June 1930 – 8 February 2023) was an Austrian diplomat. He was the Austrian ambassador to India (1974–1978), Spain (1979–1981), and France (1988–1992), and the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1992–1996). A member of the comital branch of the noble Austro-Hungarian Schallenberg family, he was born in Prague as the son of the industrialist and diplomat Herbert, Count of Schallenberg (''Herbert Graf von Schallenberg''). He studied law at the University of Vienna as well as political science at French and British universities. Count Herbert Erwin Joseph Anton von Schallenberg (german: Herbert Graf von Schallenberg; 29 March 1901 – 26 March 1974), officially known as Herbert Schallenberg from 1919, was an Austro-Hungarian count, lawyer, diplomat and industrialist. Ernst Heinrich Kneschke
Ernst Heinrich Kneschke (born 27 August 1798 in Zittau; died 2 December 1869 in Leipzig) was a German heraldist, ophthalmologist and writer. Life Ernst Heinrich Kneschke was the second son of Johann Gottfried Kneschke (1766–1825), who was Co-rector of Zittau Gymnasium and librarian of the council library, and his wife Juliana Therese Kühn (died 1802). On 10 May 1817, Kneschke enrolled at the University of Leipzig and on 24 September 1828 he graduated with the medical baccalaureate. On 29 October 1828 he received the licentiate (teaching certificate). He achieved the promotion for medicine from Leipzig in 1828 for his thesis entitled ''De hydrothorace''. In 1828 he achieved his habilitation and he continued to teach courses until his death in December 1869. from 1843 he was extraordinary professor of ophthalmology. Johann Christian von Hellbach 15 July 1757 – 18 October 1828) was a German lawyer and writer. He wrote extensively but not exclusively on history. Life Johann Christian Hellbach was born in Arnstadt, a small but locally important town in central Germany, which earlier in the century had been the home town of Johann Sebastian Bach. Hellbach's father was Ludwig Gottfried Hellbach. At the local school Hellbach's teacher was the historian Johann Gottlieb Lindner. (In 1812 Hellbach would edit and publish Lindner's autobiography.)
