''Scarlet Sails'' (russian: Алые паруса, ''Alye parusa'') is a 1923 romantic novel with elements of fantasy by Russian writer Alexander Grin. The author described the genre of the novel as féerie. It is a story about a dream coming true no matter how futile it seems. It was written during 1916–1922. Plot summary ''Plot line 1:'' As a little girl, Assol lived with her widowed father, sailor Longren, who made his living by making toys. One day Assol was sent to a city with a batch of toys, including a yacht with scarlet sails. Assol let it sail along a stream, and as she followed it she met a stranger, old Egl, who prophesied that many years in the future a prince will carry her away on a ship with scarlet sails. The tradition is highly popular for its spectacular fireworks, numerous music concerts and a massive water show. Eugen Kapp
Eugen Arturovich Kapp ( – 29 October 1996) was an Estonian composer and music educator. Characterized by simple harmonies, march rhythms and an appealing melodic style, his music is reflective upon the musical ideas favoured by the Stalinist regime of the 1940s and 1950s. He is best remembered today for his contribution to Russian opera. Born in Astrakhan, in the Astrakhan Governorate of the Russian Empire, Kapp was the son of Artur Kapp, also a composer and teacher. His first cousin was the composer, organist and music teacher Villem Kapp. Kapp studied under his father at the Tallinn Conservatory and graduated from there in 1931. Four years later he joined the adjunct faculty at the Conservatory where he taught music theory and composition. He won the Stalin Prize in 1946 for his opera ''Tasuleegid'' (‘Fire of Revenge’). Alexandr Ptushko
Aleksandr Lukich Ptushko (russian: Александр Лукич Птушко, – 6 March 1973) was a Soviet animation and fantasy film director, and a People's Artist of the USSR (1969). Ptushko is frequently (and somewhat misleadingly) referred to as "the Soviet Walt Disney," due to his prominent early role in animation in the Soviet Union, though a more accurate comparison would be to Willis O'Brien or Ray Harryhausen.
