Cillian Murphy (; born 25 May 1976) is an Irish actor. Originally the lead singer, guitarist, and lyricist of the rock band The Sons of Mr. Green Genes, he turned down a record deal in the late 1990s and began acting on stage and in short and independent films. The Scarecrow is a supervillain appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. The character was created by Bill Finger and Bob Kane, and debuted in ''World's Finest Comics'' #3 in September 1941. The Scarecrow is depicted as one of the most enduring enemies of the superhero Batman and belongs to the collective of adversaries that make up his List of Batman family enemies#Classic rogues gallery, rogues gallery. In his comic book appearances, the Scarecrow is the alter ego of Jonathan Crane, a brilliant professor of psychology turned criminal mastermind.
