Scandale (film)
''Scandale '' is a 1982 Canadian (Québec) comedy film. The plot is a reference to current events at the time of the film's creation. The response of a Parti Québécois government under René Lévesque to the recession of the early 1980s included harsh cutbacks to civil service pay which angered labour union members, a core part of the constituency of the PQ and sovereignty movement. In real life, the move would cost the party the next election. In the film, a band of government workers affected by budget cutbacks at the Ministry of Culture decide to make some fast bucks by making a blue movie in the Legislative Assembly of Quebec. Their finished product is unexpectedly entered into competition at the Cannes Film Festival in order to showcase Québec's culture, shocking government officials. George Mihalka
George Mihalka (born 1953) is a Hungarian-born Canadian filmmaker. He is known for his 1981 slasher film '' My Bloody Valentine'' which was remade in 2009. Career In Canada since 1963, George Mihalka studied film at Concordia University in Montreal, Quebec. In 1981, he directed '' My Bloody Valentine'', a low-budget ‘slasher’ for Paramount that was a modest box office hit. He has since directed in Quebec, Europe and the U.S., moving with ease from French to English, comedy to drama, theatrical features to episodic television. His 1993 satirical feature, ''La Florida'', about Quebec snowbirds, was a huge hit in that province and the Golden Reel Award winner for the highest-grossing Canadian film of the year. Rose-Alma Ouellette OQ, (August 25, 1903 – September 14, 1996) also known by her stage name La Poune was a Quebec actress, comedian, theatre manager and artistic director. Ouellette was born to François Ouellette and Josephine Lasanté in the faubourg à M’lasse, a working-class neighbourhood in Montreal, Montréal, Quebec. In her teens, she dropped out of school and worked at a shoe factory in order to provide income for her large family. In the later part of her career, she appeared in film and on television, but she is most remembered for her work on stage.
