Sayyid Abdurahman Imbichikoya Thangal Al-Aydarusi Al-Azhari ( السيد عبد الرحمان العيدروس الأزهري تنكل), also known as Azhari Thangal (അസ്ഹരി തങ്ങള്) was the President of Samastha Kerala Jamiat-ul-Ulema, the largest Muslim organisation in Kerala, India. He was selected as the vice president in 1993 and two years later appointed as the President following the death of K K Aboobacker Hazrath. He was nominated by Shams-ul-Ulama E. K. Aboobacker Musliyar. Early life and family Azhari Thangal's father is the first scholar from Sayyid family in Kerala to get Al-Baqavi graduation from Baqiyat Salihat Arabic College. Samastha Kerala Jem-iyyathul Ulama (1926–1989)
The Samastha Kerala Jem-iyyathul Ulama (informally abbreviated as the Samastha), 1926, was the principal Sunni-Shafi'i scholarly body in northern Kerala. Most of the ordinary Sunnis of Kerala, adhering to Shafi'i Law, largely followed the Ulama. A forty-member 'mushawara' was the high command body of the Sunni council. The council administered thousands of Shafi'ite mosques, madrasas (institutions where children receive basic Islamic education) and Arabic Colleges (the equivalent of north Indian madrasas). The council was organised in the aftermath of the 1921 Mappila Uprising as a response to the growing Salafi Movement in Kerala. Prominent community leaders Pangil Ahmed Kutty Musliyar and Varakkal Mullakoya Thangal first convened to form an Ulama at Valiya Jum'ah Masjid, Kozhikode in 1925. Panakkad Sayed Hyderali Shihab Thangal (15 June 1947 – 6 March 2022) was a sayyid (thangal) community leader and religious scholar from Kerala, southern India who was the Kerala State President and Chairman, National Political Advisory Committee, Indian Union Muslim League from 2009 to 2022. He was also the Vice President of the Samastha Kerala Jam'iyyat al-'Ulama' (E. K. faction), the principal Sunni-Shafi'i scholarly body in Kerala. Hyderali Thangal was a member of the Pukkoya family of Panakkad (north Kerala). He was the third son of P. M. S. A. A Maqām ( ar, مقام) is a shrine built on the site associated with a religious figure or saint, typical to the regions of Palestine and Syria. It is usually a funeral construction, commonly cubic-shaped and topped with a dome.
