Savva Vasilyevich Morozov
Savva Vasilyevich Morozov (24 April 1770 – 1860) was an eighteenth-century Russian entrepreneur, who founded the Morozov dynasty. Origins He was born a serf, his father, a fisherman having been sold by Vsevoloshsky along with other serfs, building and structures as part of the village of Zuevo to a collegiate counsellor called Ryumin. But when he was twenty years old, Savva was not content with the life of a peasant. He worked in a textile factory belonging to Fedor Kononov, who lent him 1,500 roubles to buy himself out of compulsory military service. He then married Ulyana, who shared with him her families secret method of dying fabric, and Savva was able to repay his debt in two years. Morozov benefitted from the shortage of textiles in the Russian Empire following the destruction of the textile industry around Moscow by Napoleon. Elisei Savvich Morozov (1798–1868) was the eldest son of Savva Vasilyevich Morozov of the Morozov dynasty. In 1837 he married Evdokiia Nikiforovna. His father developed some wasteland on the right bank of the Klyazma River at a location which became Nikolskoye. Timofei Savvich Morozov (23 January, 1823, Moscow - 10 October, 1889) was Russian business person active in the later period of the Russian Empire. He was part of the influential Old Believer family, the Morozovs. He was appointed head of the Moscow Duma in 1866. Timofei was one of a small number of entrepreneurs who used to attend meetings of the Russian Technical Society. Family Timofei married Maria Feodorovna Simonova in 1846. Ivan Savvich Morozov (21 July, 1810–19 October, 1864, Tver, russian: Иван Саввич Морозов) was a Russian entrepreneur who took part in the creation of the Tver Manufactory. He was the son of Savva Vasilyevich Morozov, but unlike his brothers is not recognised as founding any of the Morozov companies. Ivan was born unfree as a serf. Baron Johann Ludwig von Knoop (15 May 1821, in Bremen – 14 August 1894, in Bremen) was a cotton merchant and entrepreneur from the city-state Free Hanseatic City of Bremen, who became one of the richest entrepreneurs in his time. He was created a Baron by Alexander II of Russia in 1877. Early life He was born as son of Gerhard Knoop (1782-1862) and Anna Rebecca Frerichs (1793-1878). He had three sisters and five brothers. Platt Brothers
Platt Brothers, also known as Platt Bros & Co Ltd, was a British company based at Werneth in Oldham, North West England. The company manufactured textile machinery and were iron founders and colliery proprietors. By the end of the 19th century, the company had become the largest textile machinery manufacturer in the world, employing more than 12,000 workers. Companies Henry Platt was a blacksmith who in 1770 was manufacturing carding equipment, in Dobcross, Saddleworth, to the east of Oldham. His grandson, also Henry founded a similar business in Uppermill. In 1820, the grandson, Henry Platt moved to Huddersfield Road, Oldham and re-established his business there. He and Elijah Hibbert formed a partnership Hibbert and Platt. When his sons, Joseph and John joined the company, it was renamed Hibbert Platt and Sons.
