Savigny-sur-Orge
Savigny-sur-Orge (, literally ''Savigny on Orge'') is a commune in the southern suburbs of Paris, France. It is located 19.1 km (11.9 mi) from the center of Paris in the département of Essonne. During the 2005 civil unrest in France, Savigny was the first city to implement a curfew. It is home to the Jean-Baptiste Corot High School, a twelfth-century château converted into a school and the former property of Marshal Davout. Inhabitants of Savigny-sur-Orge are known as ''Saviniens''. Writer Patrick Erouart-Siad (born 1955 in Savigny) won the 1993 Prix Ève Delacroix of the Académie française. Louis-Nicolas Davout, a military commander under Napoleon, died in Savigny-sur-Orge, and one of the squares bears his name. Savigny-sur-Orge is a railway station in Savigny-sur-Orge, Essonne, Paris, France. The station was opened in 1843 and is on the Paris–Bordeaux railway and Grande Ceinture line, a freight railway around Paris. The station is served by Paris' express suburban rail system, the RER. Louis-Nicolas d'Avout (10 May 1770 – 1 June 1823), better known as Davout, 1st Duke of Auerstaedt, 1st Prince of Eckmühl, was a French military commander and Marshal of the Empire who served during both the French Revolutionary Wars and the Napoleonic Wars. His talent for war, along with his reputation as a stern disciplinarian, earned him the nickname "The Iron Marshal" (''Le Maréchal de fer''). He is ranked along with Marshals Louis-Alexandre Berthier and Jean Lannes as one of Napoleon's finest commanders. His loyalty and obedience to Napoleon were absolute. During his lifetime, Davout's name was commonly spelled Davoust - this spelling appears on the Arc de Triomphe and in much of the correspondence between Napoleon and his generals. Patrick Erouart-Siad, real name Patrick Erouart (born 16 January 1955, Savigny-sur-Orge) is a French writer. Biography Born of a French father and a Somali mother of Djibouti, he spent his early years in Djibouti, then returned to France in the Paris region, spent two years in Madagascar and four years in Senegal before traveling around the world. He was a resident of the Villa Médicis from 1989 to 1991, and has been living in New York city since 1996. He works with director Jacques Sarasin on a DVD and a film about Joseph Stiglitz. Orge
The Orge () is a long river in France, left tributary of the Seine. Its source is in the village Saint-Martin-de-Bréthencourt. Its course crosses the '' départements'' of Yvelines and Essonne. It flows northwest through the towns of Dourdan, Saint-Chéron, Breuillet, Arpajon, and Savigny-sur-Orge, finally flowing into the Seine in Athis-Mons, south of Paris. The towns located on the banks of the river usually have s/ Orge added to their name (i.e. Épinay-sur-Orge, Longpont-sur-Orge, Villiers-sur-Orge). The Yvette is a tributary of the Orge. Promenade de l'Orge Many of the local councils maintain parks on the banks of the river. A ''syndicat'' has been formed to link the parks of 32 communes. RER C
RER C is one of the five lines in the Réseau Express Régional (English: Regional Express Network), a hybrid commuter rail and rapid transit system serving Paris, France and its suburbs. The line crosses the region from north to south.
