Savarinathen Iruthayaraj (July 14 , 1927 in Ooty, Tamil Nadu – October 18, 2001) was an Indian cleric and Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Palayamkottai. Biography Savarinathen Iruthayaraj was born on 14 July 1927 in Ooty, in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. He received the Sacrament of Holy Orders on December 20, 1959. On May 17, 1973, Pope Paul VI appointed him as Bishop of the newly created Diocese of Palayamkottai. Ooty (), officially known as Udhagamandalam (also known as Ootacamund (); abbreviated as Udhagai), is a city and a municipality in the Nilgiris district of the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Antony Padiyara
Mar Antony Padiyara (11 February 1921 – 23 March 2000) was a Syro Malabar Major Archbishop and cardinal. He was the First Major Archbishop of the Syro-Malabar Catholic Church. He was Major Archbishop of Ernakulam-Angamaly from 1985 to 1996, having previously served as Bishop of Ootacamund (1955–1970) and Archbishop of Changanassery (1970–1985). He was elevated to the cardinalate in 1988.
