Saul Dibb
Saul Dibb (born 18 August 1968) is an English director and screenwriter. His father is the documentary maker Mike Dibb. Born in London, England, Saul Dibb is a graduate of the University of East Anglia. He is best known for co-writing and directing ''Bullet Boy'', for which he was nominated for the Douglas Hickox Award, ''The Line of Beauty'', and '' The Duchess'', which won the Academy Award for Best Costume in 2009. In 2016, he directed the adaptation for BBC2 of Zadie Smith's bestselling novel '' NW'' into a 90-minute television film of the same name, starring Nikki Amuka-Bird and Phoebe Fox. Dibb directed a film adaptation of R. C. Sherriff's 1928 play ''Journey's End'', which was released in 2017. This has been dubbed "The best ever film about the Great War" by ''The Times''. Mike Dibb
Mike Dibb (born Wharfedale, Bradford, West Yorkshire, 29 April 1940) is an English documentary filmmaker. In almost half a century of making films mainly for television – on subjects including cinema, literature, art, jazz, sport and popular culture – "he has defined and re-defined not only the televisual art documentary genre but has been able to make moving image pieces as a form of self portraiture". Dibb has made many acclaimed films, including on Federico García Lorca, C. L. R. James, Astor Piazzolla, Miles Davis, Keith Jarrett, Barbara Thompson and other notable subjects. Journey's End (2017 Film)
''Journey's End'' is a 2017 British war film based on the 1928 play by R. C. Sherriff. Written by Simon Reade and directed by Saul Dibb, it was screened in the " Special Presentations" section at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival. The film is the fifth film adaptation of the play, following ''Journey's End'' (1930), '' The Other Side'' (1931), '' Aces High'' (1976), and ''Journey's End'' (1988 BBC TV film). Plot Young Second Lieutenant Raleigh is sent to the front lines of the war, the trenches in Northern France. ''The Salisbury Poisonings'' is a fact-based television drama, starring Anne-Marie Duff, Rafe Spall and Annabel Scholey which portrays the 2018 Novichok poisonings and decontamination crisis in Salisbury, England, and the subsequent Amesbury poisonings. ''Journey's End'' is a 1928 dramatic play by English playwright R. C. Sherriff, set in the trenches near Saint-Quentin, Aisne, towards the end of the First World War. The story plays out in the officers' dugout of a British Army infantry company from 18 March 1918 to 21 March 1918, providing a glimpse of the officers' lives in the last few days before Operation Michael. The play was first performed at the Apollo Theatre in London by the Incorporated Stage Society on 9 December 1928, starring a young Laurence Olivier, and soon moved to other West End theatres for a two-year run. It was included in Burns Mantle's ''The Best Plays of 1928–1929''. The piece quickly became internationally popular, with numerous productions and tours in English and other languages.
