Saud Alsanousi
Saud Alsanousi ( ar, سعود السنعوسي, born 27 May 1981) is a Kuwaiti novelist and journalist. His debut novel ''The Prisoner of Mirrors'' (2010) won the Leila Othman Prize. In 2011, his short story ''The Bonsai and the Old Man'' won a competition organized by '' Al-Arabi'' magazine and BBC Arabic. His novel ''The Bamboo Stalk'', written from the perspective of a boy of mixed Kuwaiti-Filipino parentage about his struggle to find a place in either country, won the International Prize for Arabic Fiction (2013). International Prize For Arabic Fiction
The International Prize for Arabic Fiction (IPAF) ( ar, الجائزة العالمية للرواية العربية) is the most prestigious and important literary prize in the Arab world. Its aim is to reward excellence in contemporary Arabic creative writing and to encourage the readership of high quality Arabic literature internationally through the translation and publication of winning and shortlisted novels in other major languages. In addition to the prize itself, IPAF supports other literary initiatives. In 2009, IPAF launched its inaugural Nadwa (writers’ workshop) for emerging writers of fiction in Arabic. The prize is administered by the Booker Prize Foundation in London, and is currently funded by Department of Culture and Tourism, Abu Dhabi (DCT). A debut novel is the first novel a novelist publishes. Leila Othman Prize
Laila al-Othman (sometimes Laylā al-'Uthmān) is a Kuwaiti writer, novelist, short story writer, and a famous fictionist who was born into a prominent Kuwaiti family in 1943, and only 22 years later she made her writing debut in a local newspaper featuring her opinion on social and literary issues. During the course of her career, she has published 14 collections of short stories, nine novels, and many news articles. Biography Early life Laila al-Othman, is the fourth girl of the family, she was born in 1943 in Kuwait at a small seaside town. When she was born, her mother threw her out a window because she wanted a son. In the end, al-Othman was saved by the nurse. Many of her future works are inspired by this unfortunate event. Al-Arabi Sporting Club ( ar, النادي العربي الرياضي) is a Kuwaiti sports club club based in Mansuriya, Kuwait City. The most notable section is football team in the Kuwait Premier League. Al-Arabi SC was named ''Al-ʿUrūba'' ( ar, العُروبَة, lit=The Arabism) at the beginning of 1953, and changed to Al-Arabi SC (The Arabian) in 1960. As winners of the Kuwait Emir Cup in 2008, Al-Arabi SC was the first Kuwaiti team to compete in the AFC Cup. Al-Arabi SC has 45 official trophies next to its name (57 domestic and 2 GCC), the most of any Kuwaiti football team.
