''Satyavan Savithri'' is a 1977 Indian Malayalam-language period drama film directed by P. G. Viswambaran, starring Kamal Haasan and Sridevi. The film was also dubbed into Tamil with the same title and into Telugu as ''Sathyavanthudu''. Synopsis ''Satyavan Savithri'' is the story of the legendary '' Savitri'', a woman whose devotion matched Draupadi's as said by Markandeya to Yudhishthira's query. The plot has been taken from the epic Mahabharata. Savitri And Satyavan
In Hinduism, Savitri and Satyavan ( sa, सावित्री ''Sāvitrī'' and ''Satyavān'') are a legendary couple, known for Savitri's love and devotion to her husband Satyavan. According to the legend, princess Savitri marries an exiled prince named Satyavan, who was prophesied to die early. The later part of legend focuses on Savitri's wit and love, which saved her husband from the death god Yama (Hindu), Yama. The oldest known version of the story of Savitri and Satyavan is found in ''Vana Parva'' ("The Book of the Forest") of the ''Mahabharata''. The story occurs as a multiply-embedded narrative in the ''Mahabharata'' as told by sage Markandeya. Jose Prakash
Jose Prakash (14 April 1925 – 24 March 2012) was an Indian actor and singer who worked in Malayalam cinema. He was a singer turned actor who had appeared in more than 300 films mostly in antagonist roles. He was awarded with the J. C. Daniel Award in 2011, a day before he died aged 86. In a career spanning for around 40 years, he is known for portraying some of the iconic villain characters in the Malayalam film industry. Later, he switched to character roles in the mid 90s. Personal life He was the eldest of the eight children of Kunnel K.J. Joseph & Eliyamma Joseph on 14 April 1925 at Changanassery, Kottayam. Sreekumaran Thampi
Sreekumaran Thampi (born 16 March 1940) is an Indian lyricist, music director, director, producer, and screenwriter in Malayalam cinema. He also writes poetry and is a recipient of the Vallathol Award. In 2017, he was awarded the J. C. Daniel Award, Kerala government's highest honour for contributions to Malayalam cinema. Aranmula Ponnamma
Aranmula Ponnamma (8 April 1914 – 21 February 2011) was a National Award winning Indian actress known for her roles as mother of the protagonist in numerous films in a career spanning over five decades.
