Satuit Technologies
Satuit is a Native American Wampanoag Indian word meaning "cold brook" (salt, cold stream?). The town of Scituate, a seacoast town in Plymouth County, Massachusetts, United States, on the South Shore, midway between Boston and Plymouth; derived its name from this word. Satuit changed name to Scituate in 1640. The Wampanoag Indians inhabited the area and were referring to a brook by that name which runs into the inner harbour at what is now called Scituate. Seteat was an alternative Indian spelling of Satuit. Satuit Brook still flows into the head of the harbour, at the southern end of front street next to Bank of America. The Wampanoag , also rendered Wôpanâak, are an Indigenous people of the Northeastern Woodlands based in southeastern Massachusetts and historically parts of eastern Rhode Island,Salwen, "Indians of Southern New England and Long Island," p. 171. Their territory included the islands of Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket. Today there are two federally recognized Wampanoag tribes: * Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe * Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head (Aquinnah). Scituate () is a seacoast town in Plymouth County, Massachusetts, United States, on the South Shore, midway between Boston and Plymouth. The population was 19,063 at the 2020 census. History The Wampanoag and their neighbors have inhabited the lands Scituate now stands on for thousands of years. The name Scituate is derived from " satuit", the Wampanoag term for cold brook, which refers to a brook that runs to the inner harbor of the town. In 1710, several European colonizers emigrated to Rhode Island and founded Scituate, Rhode Island, naming it after their previous hometown. European colonization brought a group of people from Plymouth about 1627, who were joined by colonizers from the county of Kent in England.
