''Satin and Spurs'' is a 1954 American TV variety special with Betty Hutton. This was the first NBC special broadcast in color. The special originated from NBC's color studios in the Midwood section of Brooklyn. NBC would produce later specials from here, including ''Peter Pan'' with Mary Martin. Betty Hutton
Betty Hutton (born Elizabeth June Thornburg; February 26, 1921 – March 12, 2007) was an American stage, film, and television actress, comedian, dancer, and singer. She rose to fame in the 1940s as a contract player for Paramount Pictures, appearing primarily in musicals and became one of the studio's most valuable stars. She was noted for her energetic performance style. Raised in Detroit during the Great Depression by a single mother who worked as a Rum-running, bootlegger, Hutton began performing as a singer from a young age, entertaining patrons of her mother's speakeasy. ''Peter Pan'' is a 1954 musical based on J. M. Barrie's 1904 play '' Peter Pan'' and his 1911 novelization of it, '' Peter and Wendy''. The music is mostly by Moose Charlap, with additional music by Jule Styne, and most of the lyrics were written by Carolyn Leigh, with additional lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green. The original Broadway production, starring Mary Martin as Peter and Cyril Ritchard as Captain Hook, earned Tony Awards for both stars. It was followed by NBC telecasts of it in 1955, 1956, and 1960 with the same stars, plus several rebroadcasts of the 1960 telecast. Mary Virginia Martin (December 1, 1913 – November 3, 1990) was an American actress and singer. JC Studios was a film and television studio located at 1268 East 14th Street in the Midwood section of Brooklyn, New York. The land on which the studio buildings were situated can trace its motion picture history back to around 1903, when it served as a studio and backlot for Vitagraph and Florence Turner, its first Vitagraph girl. Vitagraph's main Brooklyn facility was located across East 14th Street on property occupied by the Shulamith School for Girls until 2010.
