Sathien Sathirasut
Sthira Sthirasuta (also spelled Sathien Sathirasut, etc., th, เสถียร เสถียรสุต, ; 1926 – 9 December 2017) was a Thai real estate developer and socialite, known as an art collector, stable owner, Muay Thai promoter, and Buddhist benefactor. Sthira was born into a land-owning family. He attended school at Vajiravudh College and received education in the United Kingdom. From the family's holdings, he developed the Ploenchit Arcade shopping centre, and later managed The Regent Bangkok hotel. He was a member of high society, known for his colourful lifestyle and gangster reputation. He had large collections of art and Buddha amulets, and was a stable-owner, his horses regularly racing at the Pathum Wan and Nang Loeng racecourses. Muay Thai ( th, มวยไทย, , ), sometimes referred to as Thai boxing, is a combat sport that uses stand-up striking along with various clinching techniques. This discipline is known as the "art of eight limbs", as it is characterised by the combined use of fists, elbows, knees and shins. Vajiravudh College is a private all-boys boarding school located at 197 Rajvithi Road, Dusit District, Dusit, Bangkok 10300 Thailand. The Royal Bangkok Sports Club (RBSC, th, ราชกรีฑาสโมสร) is an exclusive sports club in Bangkok, Thailand, best known to the public for its horse racing venue. Nang Loeng Racecourse
The Royal Turf Club of Thailand under Royal Patronage ( th, ราชตฤณมัยสมาคมแห่งประเทศไทย ในพระบรมราชูปถัมภ์) is a sports club in Thailand, formerly located at its historic horse racing venue in Bangkok, which was commonly known as the Nang Loeng Racecourse (). It was founded in 1916 by a group of aristocrats as an alternative to the Royal Bangkok Sports Club, and became highly popular during the first half of the twentieth century. Horse racing in Thailand declined in popularity towards the end of the twentieth century, and the Royal Turf Club likewise saw large falls in spectator numbers. Sor Ploenchit ( th, ส.เพลินจิต) was a Muay Thai training gym in Bangkok, founded by Sathien Sathirasut in 1981. It became widely known when Kaensak Sor.Ploenjit became Rajadamnern and Lumpini champion in 1989, and with Saen Sor Ploenchit becoming WBA world champion in 1994. The gym closed down in 2014. Sansanee Panyasiri
Sansanee Sthirasuta ( th, ศันสนีย์ เสถียรสุต, ; 1953 – 7 December 2021), better known as Mae Chee Sansanee, was a Thai Theravada Buddhist spiritual teacher and ''maechi'' (non-ordained woman monastic). She was known for teaching meditative practices and encouraging the role of women in Buddhism, and was the founder of Sathira-Dhammasthan, a learning centre and spiritual retreat in Bangkok. Sansanee was born Sansanee Panyasiri (). She left her hometown in Ayutthaya province for Bangkok at the age of 15, becoming a model and television personality. She was briefly romantically involved with millionaire socialite Sthira Sthirasuta, but after finding out he was already married eventually decided to abandon worldly life and become a ''maechi'' (nun) at the age of 27. Mae Chi
Maechi or Mae chee ( th, แม่ชี; ) are Buddhist laywomen in Thailand who have dedicated their life to religion, vowing celibacy, living an ascetic life and taking the Eight or Ten Precepts (i.e., more than the Five Precepts taken by laypersons). They occupy a position somewhere between that of an ordinary lay follower and an ordained monastic and similar to that of the sāmaṇerī. It is still illegal for women to take full ordination as a bhikkhuni (nun) in Thailand because of a 1928 law created by the Supreme Patriarch of Thailand. He based this on the fact that Gautama Buddha allowed senior bhikkhunis to initiate new women into the order.
