Satelmond Palace
Satelmond Palace in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India is one of the palaces that belonged to the Travancore Royal Family. It is situated in the Poojapura ward of Thiruvananthapuram city. Originally known as Vijaya Vilasam (roughly translated as "the Place of Victory"), it later became known as Satelmond Palace. It was the official residence of Sethu Lakshmi Bayi during her regency. During the late 1970s, it was gifted by the royal family to the Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology, which started its biomedical technology wing there. The queen's portrait still hangs in the hallway at the entrance of the main building. Construction Satelmond Palace is two-storeyed, featuring massive pillars at the entrance, intricate etchings, statues of majestic lions, floors with elaborate patterns, circular wooden staircases, and slanting roofs with grooved terracotta tiles. Thiruvananthapuram (; ), also known by its former name Trivandrum (), is the capital of the Indian state of Kerala. It is the most populous city in Kerala with a population of 957,730 as of 2011. Poojapura
Poojappura known as "The heart of Trivandrum" is a Suburb of Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum) in India. It is located in the south-east part of the city, surrounded by Jagathi, Karamana, Mudavanmugal and Thirumala. This place was once used as the worship place during the Navaratri festival season. The name Poojappura comes from the fact that it was here that the King of Travancore used to arrive during Mahanavami celebrations for the ''pooja'' (worship). There is the biggest Kavadi Procession on Vijayadeshami day with over 700 Kavadis, Paravakavadi, Suryakavadi, Mayilkavadi, Agnikavadi etc. Poojappura is known for housing the Central Prison (Central Jail) of Kerala. Sethu Lakshmi Bayi
Pooradam Thirunal Sethu Lakshmi Bayi CI (5 November 1895– 22 February 1985) was the monarch, though designated as the Regent due to British policy, of the Kingdom of Travancore in southern India between 1924 and 1931. She, along with her younger cousin, Moolam Thirunal Sethu Parvathi Bayi, were adopted into the Travancore Royal Family and were the granddaughters of the celebrated painter, Raja Ravi Varma. In 1924, Maharajah Moolam Thirunal died and his grand nephew and the heir to the throne, Sree Chithira Thirunal, was just 12 years old then. A regency became necessary, since the Maharajah was still a minor. Since Travancore royal family followed the matrilineal system, Sethu Lakshmi Bayi was the head of the family. Princely State
A princely state (also called native state or Indian state) was a nominally sovereign entity of the British Raj, British Indian Empire that was not directly governed by the British, but rather by an Indian ruler under a form of indirect rule, subject to a subsidiary alliance and the suzerainty or paramountcy of the the Crown, British crown. There were officially 565 princely states when India and Pakistan became independent in 1947, but the great majority had contracted with the viceroy to provide public services and tax collection.
