Sasquatch (ride)
Sasquatch is an S&S Worldwide combo drop tower at Six Flags Great Escape and Hurricane Harbor in Queensbury, New York. It opened on May 10, 2009. The ride was previously located at Six Flags New Orleans under the names ''Bayou Blaster'' and ''Sonic Slam''; after the park closed due to Hurricane Katrina in 2005, the ride was moved to Great Escape. The current name is derived from the cryptid Sasquatch. Ride History The ride first opened in 2000 as ''Bayou Blaster'' and ''Sonic Slam'' at a new park called ''Jazzland''. Then Six Flags took over the lease of the park in 2002 and changed the name to Six Flags New Orleans in 2003. After Hurricane Katrina hit the park on August 29, 2005, the park was severely flooded from the hurricane and has remained closed since. Six Flags New Orleans
Six Flags New Orleans is an abandoned theme park located near the intersection of Interstate 10 and Interstate 510 in New Orleans. It first opened as Jazzland in 2000, and a leasing agreement was established with Six Flags in 2002 following the previous operator's bankruptcy proceedings. Six Flags invested $20 million in upgrades, and the park reopened as Six Flags New Orleans in 2003. It was closed eight days prior to Hurricane Katrina making landfall on August 29, 2005, and because of serious damage from flooding, the park never reopened and was left abandoned. Six Flags salvaged several rides and relocated them to other parks. The Industrial Development Board (IDB) of New Orleans owns the property and oversees redevelopment plans. Six Flags Great Escape and Hurricane Harbor is an amusement and water park owned and operated by Six Flags. It is located approximately north of Albany, in Queensbury, New York. It was one of three Six Flags parks not to be officially branded with the "Six Flags" name until 2022, with La Ronde in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, and Frontier City in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, being the last two without the Six Flags branding. History The Great Escape was opened in 1954 as Storytown USA, a Mother Goose themed amusement park by businessman Charles Wood who bought the land with his wife for $75,000. Rainbow is an amusement park ride created by HUSS Maschinenfabrik of Bremen, Germany (now HUSS Park Attractions of Budapest, Hungary). The Rainbow was manufactured from 1982 to 2000 and is often confused with its cousins Ali Baba and 1001 Nachts, which are quite different. The HUSS Rainbow has developed a vast fan base due to its large stature, smooth ride, bright lights, and iconic motor noise. Design According to HUSS, there were 41 units produced, which were seen towering atop midways all over the world. The more popular traveling model was created plus several park models. Some units were also converted to the opposite model later in their life. It was rumored that some units were converted from its older brother Ranger, however, this has not been proven on this page yet.
