Saskia Tomkins
Saskia Tomkins is a British musician and actress, living since 2007 in Ontario, Canada. She plays the violin, viola, cello and Nyckelharpa. She performs and records in several genres, including traditional, modern, jazz and classical music. Early life and education Tomkins grew up in Kent, UK, and began studying the violin at age seven. She studied jazz and popular music at Middlesex University in London, UK, graduating with B. A. in performing arts. Career Tomkins toured in Germany with Robb Johnson and Miranda Sykes in Johnson's band RJ3. She performed on several of Johnson's albums, released on Irregular Records. Tomkins performed with the band Lintilla. In 2006 she won the All Britain Fiddle Championship in the category of Irish slow airs. Tomkins met and married Irish multi-instrumentalist Steáfán Hannigan. Roy Thomson Hall is a concert hall in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Located downtown in the city's entertainment district, it is home to the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir, and the Toronto Defiant. Opened in 1982, its circular architectural design exhibits a sloping and curvilinear glass exterior. It was designed by Canadian architects Arthur Erickson and Mathers and Haldenby. Itzhak Perlman acted as a special advisor to the architects on accessibility needs for disabled performers and guests. The 4th Line Theatre is a Canadian theatre company located near the small town of Millbrook, Ontario in the township of Cavan Monaghan that is dedicated to producing and developing original Canadian theatre, from small-town stories to broad national sagas – written by and about Canadians. History Founded by Robert Winslow in 1992, after his mother's passing left him with the 150-acre farm property that has been in his family for 150 years, Rob launched theatre with the classic The Cavan Blazers. Based on the story of the 19th-century Orangemen in Millbrook who violently tried to drive out Catholics who attempted to settle in the area. Winslow has directed and written many of the plays. Some of the more recent productions have been directed by Kim Blackwell. For the theatre's 25th season in 2016, an art show celebrating past productions was held in Millbrook. The Chieftains
The Chieftains are a traditional Irish folk band formed in Dublin in 1962, by Paddy Moloney, Seán Potts and Michael Tubridy. Their sound, which is almost entirely instrumental and largely built around uilleann pipes, has become synonymous with traditional Irish music. They are regarded as having helped popularise Irish music around the world. They have won six Grammy Awards during their career and they were given a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2002 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards. Robb Johnson
Robb Jenner Johnson (born 25 December 1955) is a British musician and songwriter who has been called "one of the last genuinely political songwriters". He is known for his mix of political satire and wit. He has his own record label, Irregular Records, and has released more than 40 albums since 1985, either solo or in several collaborations. Biography Johnson began his musical career playing in folk clubs in the 1970s and ran a folk club at the University of Sussex, before forming a band called Grubstreet, which split up in 1983. Two years later he made his first solo album, ''In Amongst the Rain'', setting up his own label on which to release it, before forming an agitprop group, The Ministry of Humour, with Mark Shilcock and Graham Barnes.
