Saskatoon Southeast is a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan, Canada. Since a boundary redraw in 2012, it currently encompasses the Saskatoon neighbourhoods of Lakeridge, Lakeview, Lakewood and Rosewood as well as portions of Wildwood and Briarwood. History The district was created in 1988 for the 1991 general election as Saskatoon Wildwood, encompassing the Wildwood, Rosewood, Lakewood, Briarwood, The Willows and Stonebridge neighbourhoods of Saskatoon. Before the 1995 general election, the district was reconfigured and expanded to include the rural communities of Grasswood, Floral, Furdale and part of the Rural Municipality of Corman Park. This rural territory was moved to Saskatoon Stonebridge-Dakota in 2012, making it again into an entirely urban constituency for the 2016 general election, this time centered in the neighbourhoods of Lakeview, Lakeridge and Rosewood. Stonebridge is a mostly residential neighbourhood located in south-central Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. It is a suburban subdivision, consisting of low-density, single detached dwellings and a mix of medium-density apartment and semi-detached dwellings. As of 2009, the area is home to 994 residents. The neighbourhood is considered a middle-income area, with an average family income of $67,642, an average dwelling value of $321,004 and a home ownership rate of 72.4%. History The first development in the area occurred with the purchase of land in 1976 by the University Drive Alliance Church. Saskatchewan New Democratic Party
The Saskatchewan New Democratic Party (NDP) is a social-democratic political party in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. It currently forms the official opposition, but has been a dominant force in Saskatchewan politics since the 1940s. The party is the successor to the Saskatchewan section of the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF), and is affiliated with the federal New Democratic Party. History Precursors The origins of the party began as early as 1902. In that year a group of farmers created the Territorial Grain Growers' Association. The objective of this group was to lobby for farmer's rights with the grain trade and the railways. Pat Lorje
Pat Lorje (pronounced "lor ee eh") was a Canadian politician. She represented the riding of Saskatoon Southeast in the Saskatchewan Legislature from 1991 to 2003, and also served two stints as a Saskatoon City Councillor, serving a total of 22 years on Council. Early life and career Lorje was born in Eastend, Saskatchewan in 1947 and attended school in the hamlet of Caron, near Moose Jaw. Her father, Rod Wilkening, was a pilot with the Royal Canadian Air Force who served in the Second World War and re-enlisted during the Korean War; however, he was killed in a car accident before leaving to Korea. Lorje was the oldest of four children left to their mother, Phyllis. The 22nd Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan was elected in the 1991 Saskatchewan election. It was controlled by the New Democratic Party under Premier Roy Romanow. The Saskatchewan Party is a centre-right political party in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. Since 2007, it has been the province's governing party; both the party and the province are currently led by Premier Scott Moe.
