Assiniboia, Saskatchewan
Assiniboia is a town in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. It is located south-southwest of Moose Jaw beside Highway 2 and Highway 13. History The Dominion Land Survey's description of the area around Assiniboia is Sec.18, Twp.8, R.29, W2. It was first settled by people of English, French, Romanian, Scottish, and Scandinavian descent. From 30 March 1908 to 23 November 1912, the post office at this location was named Leeville, Saskatchewan. The settlement of Assiniboia originated on 12 October 1912, when the Canadian Pacific Railway put 980 lots up for sale at the townsite as it built a branch line through southern Saskatchewan. The community grew rapidly and on 22 December 1912, it was incorporated as a village. In 1913, the population rose from 400 to 1400, and the community was incorporated as a town. Jolene Campbell (born Jolene McIvor on August 12, 1981) is a Canadian curler from Regina, Saskatchewan. She currently skips her own team out of Winnipeg. Curling career Junior career Born in Saskatoon, Campbell won a provincial junior title in 2002, skipping a team consisting of Teejay Surik, Janelle Lemon and Maegan Strueby. At the 2002 Canadian Junior Curling Championships she led Saskatchewan to a third-place finish, after losing in the semifinal to Prince Edward Island's Suzanne Gaudet. 2007–2012 Campbell and her team of Sherry Linton, Allison Slupski and Marcia Gudereit, would win the Schmirler Curling Classic in 2007. 2017 Saskatchewan Scotties Tournament Of Hearts
The 2017 Viterra Saskatchewan Scotties Tournament of Hearts, the provincial women's curling championship of Saskatchewan was held from January 24–29 at the Horizon Credit Union Centre in Melville. The winning Penny Barker team represented Saskatchewan at the 2017 Scotties Tournament of Hearts in St. Catharines, Ontario. Moose Jaw's Penny Barker won her first provincial women's title, sealing the victory after a hit for four points in the final, defeating North Battleford's Robyn Silvernagle. The Barker rink was ranked 7th going into the tournament, and only made the playoffs after winning a tiebreaker match. She then won three straight playoff games to claim the title. The 2017 Scotties Tournament of Hearts will be the first national championship for all four members of the Barker rink. The Nutana Curling Club is a curling club located in the neighbourhood of Nutana Suburban Centre in south-central Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. The club was organized in 1929 at the Nutana Collegiate Institute. The club was first opened in 1930 at the corner of Dufferin Avenue and Main Street in the Nutana neighbourhood of the city. In 1966, it moved to its current suburban location at the corner of Arlington Avenue and Taylor Street. The club hosts the annual Colonial Square Ladies Classic, one of women's events on the World Curling Tour and former Grand Slam of Curling event.
