Saskatchewan Roughriders
The Saskatchewan Roughriders are a professional Canadian football team based in Regina, Saskatchewan. The Roughriders compete in the Canadian Football League (CFL) as a member club of the league's West Division. The Roughriders were founded in 1910 as the Regina Rugby Club. Although Saskatchewan was not the first team to play football in Western Canada, the club has maintained an unbroken organizational continuity since their founding. The Roughriders are the fourth-oldest professional gridiron football team in existence today (only the Arizona Cardinals, Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Toronto Argonauts are older), and one of the oldest professional sports teams still in existence in North America. Mike Anderson (Canadian Football)
Mike Anderson (born August 15, 1961) is a former professional Canadian football offensive lineman who played 12 seasons in the Canadian Football League (CFL) for the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Edmonton Eskimos
The Edmonton Elks are a professional Canadian football team based in Edmonton, Alberta. The club competes in the Canadian Football League (CFL) as a member of the league's West Division and plays their home games at the Brick Field at Commonwealth Stadium. Ottawa Rough Riders
The Ottawa Rough Riders were a Canadian Football League team based in Ottawa, Ontario, founded in 1876. Formerly one of the oldest and longest-lived professional sports teams in North America, the Rough Riders won the Grey Cup championship nine times. Their most dominant era was the 1960s and 1970s, in which they won five Grey Cups. The team's fortunes waned in the 1980s and 1990s, and they ultimately ceased operations following the 1996 CFL season, 1996 season. Five years later, a new CFL team known as the Ottawa Renegades was founded, though they suspended operations in 2006. The Winnipeg Blue Bombers are a professional Canadian football team based in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The Blue Bombers compete in the Canadian Football League (CFL) as a member club of the league's West division. They play their home games at IG Field. The Blue Bombers were founded in 1930 as the Winnipeg Rugby Football Club, later changed to the Winnipeg Football Club, which is the organization's legal name. The Blue Bombers are one of three community owned teams, without shareholders, in the CFL. Brett Lauther (born November 4, 1990) is a professional Canadian football placekicker for the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League (CFL). Holds the highest field goal percentage in Saskatchewan Roughriders History. (Minimum 100 attempts) High school Lauther attended the Cobequid Educational Centre in Truro, Nova Scotia where he played for the Cougars as a placekicker and wide receiver. University career Lauther played CIS football at Saint Mary's University for the Huskies from 2009 to 2012. He played in 18 games over four years as the team's placekicker and punter where he was successful on 33 out of 47 field goal attempts and had 146 punts with a 38.4-yard average. Luca Congi
Luca Congi (born June 15, 1983) is a former professional Canadian football punter/ placekicker. He was drafted 12th overall by the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the 2006 CFL Draft. He played CIS football at Simon Fraser University for the Simon Fraser Clan. Professional career Saskatchewan Roughriders Congi was drafted out of college by Saskatchewan (12th overall) in 2006, and he won the position of punter/ placekicker in training camp. He replaced the Roughriders longtime franchise kicker Paul McCallum, who left Saskatchewan to join the BC Lions as a free agent in 2006. After the 2007 season, Congi was no longer the primary punter for Saskatchewan, with that role going to Jamie Boreham followed by Louie Sakoda in 2010. George Reed (Canadian Football)
George Robert Reed, CM, SOM (born October 2, 1939), is a former American college football and Canadian Football League player. Reed, along with Mike Pringle and Johnny Bright, is one of the players most often mentioned as being the greatest running back in CFL history. In November 2006, Reed was voted one of the CFL's Top 50 players (#2) of the league's modern era by Canadian sports network TSN. Reed played his entire 13-year professional football career for the CFL Saskatchewan Roughriders and his #34 jersey is one of eight that has been retired by the club. Jack Abendschan
Jack Abendschan (born December 18, 1942) is a former Canadian Football League offensive lineman and placekicker who played for the Saskatchewan Roughriders from 1965 through 1975. Professional career Jack Abendschan began his career with the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 1965 and remained with them throughout his 11-year CFL career. Abendschan played offensive guard and except for 1968, he played all 16 games of the regular season every year from 1965 to 1973. Abendschan was also an accurate placekicker. His best field goal percentage was 63.2% (24 of 38) in 1970, his next best 60.7% (17 of 28) in 1967, which was considered very good at the time, considering kickers were not specialists then. Paul McCallum (Canadian Football)
Paul McCallum (born January 7, 1970) is a former Canadian football punter and placekicker. McCallum had been a member of four different CFL franchises, one XFL team, an NFL Europa team, and a Scottish third division club. At the time of his retirement, McCallum was the oldest active player in the CFL, having played in 23 seasons over the course of his career. Junior career McCallum played junior football with the Surrey Rams of the Canadian Junior Football League. Bill Clarke (Canadian Football)
Norman Edwin William Clarke (November 25, 1932 – December 20, 2000) was a professional Canadian football player who played both defensive tackle and offensive tackle for the Saskatchewan Roughriders from 1951 through 1964. Early years Bill Clarke was born in Regina on November 25, 1932, to parents G.W.R. (Bill) and Ruth L. Clarke. He played junior football with the Regina Dales (later to become the Regina Rams) before turning professional with the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 1951. Professional career Clarke became one of the longest-serving members of the Roughriders, playing 14 seasons as both an offensive and defensive tackle, including 8 seasons serving as the captain of the defence squad.
