Sarona Market ( he, שרונה מרקט) is the largest enclosed culinary market in Israel., located in the southern edge of the city's Templer Colony restoration project in Sarona, Tel Aviv. Sarona Market was constructed by Gindi Holdings and opened in 2015, and is the first indoor market in Israel. After its establishment, other enclosed markets were built throughout the country. Sarona (colony)
Sarona is a neighborhood of Tel Aviv, Israel which started as a German Templer Colony in Palestine in 1871.Jaffa: A City in Evolution: 1799-1917, Ruth Kark, p.91 It was one of the earliest modern villages established by Europeans in Ottoman Palestine. In July 1941, the British Mandate authorities deported 188 residents of Sarona, who were considered hard-core Nazi sympathizers. By the 2000s, the area had fallen into disrepair and was a haven for drug addicts. However, since 2003, the area has undergone massive renovation, which involved moving and relocating historical buildings before their restoration. June 2016 Tel Aviv Shooting
The June 2016 Tel Aviv shooting, which occurred on 8 June 2016 in Tel Aviv, Israel, was a terrorist attack in which two Palestinian gunmen opened fire on patrons at the Max Brenner Cafe in the Sarona Market, killing four people and injuring seven others. The perpetrators were caught alive by the security forces and put in custody. According to an official indictment filed by the Tel Aviv District Prosecutor's Office the perpetrators were inspired by the Islamic State group. Background Perpetrators The perpetrators, Khalid al-Muhamra and Muhammad Ahmad Moussa Mahmara, cousins belonging to the Makhamra family from the town of Yatta in the Hebron area in the West Bank were both 21.
