Sarnia—Lambton (formerly known as Sarnia) is a federal electoral district (Canada), electoral district in Ontario, Canada, that has been represented in the House of Commons of Canada since 1968. It is located in the area of the city of Sarnia, in the southwest corner of the provinces and territories of Canada, province of Ontario. Until 2015, Sarnia—Lambton, with its predecessors Sarnia, and Lambton West, was Canada's most bellwetherly riding, having voted for the winning party from 1963 to 2011. Under the 2022 Canadian federal electoral redistribution the riding will be renamed Sarnia—Lambton—Bkejwanong. History It was created as Sarnia electoral district in 1966 from parts of Lambton West (federal electoral district), Lambton West riding. It consisted of that part of the County of Lambton contained in the City of Sarnia and the Townships of Moore, Sarnia and Plympton excepting the Town of Forest. The federal electoral redistribution of 2012 was a redistribution of electoral districts ("ridings") in Canada following the results of the 2011 Canadian census. As a result of amendments to the Constitution Act, 1867, the number of seats in the House of Commons of Canada increased from 308 to 338. The previous electoral redistribution was in 2003. Background and previous attempts at reform Prior to 2012, the redistribution rules for increasing the number of seats in the House of Commons of Canada was governed by section 51 of the ''Constitution Act, 1867'', as last amended in 1985. As early as 2007, attempts were made to reform the calculation of how that number was determined, as the 1985 formula did not fully take into account the rapid population growth being experienced in the provinces of Alberta, British Columbia and Ontario. Ken James (Canadian Politician)
Kenneth Albert James (5 August 1934 – 24 September 2014) was a Progressive Conservative Party of Canada, Progressive Conservative member of the House of Commons of Canada. Born in Sarnia, Ontario, he was a businessman, farmer, marketing and sales manager by career. He attended Michigan State University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in economics. James served as reeve and councillor for the Township of Sarnia for a decade. In federal politics, he represented the Ontario riding of Sarnia—Lambton where he was first elected in the 1984 Canadian federal election, 1984 federal election and 1988 Canadian federal election, re-elected in 1988, therefore becoming a member in the 33rd Canadian Parliament, 33rd and 34th Canadian Parliaments.
