Sarigama
''Sarigama'' () is a 2016 Sinhala musical film written and directed by Somaratne Dissanayake and produced by his wife Renuka Balasooriya for Cine Films Lanka. The film stars Pooja Umashankar and Ashan Dias as leading roles while Malini Fonseka and Gayani Gisantika also play key supporting roles. It was released on 2 December 2016 only on EAP 3D cinemas. Origin The film is an adaptation of the 1965 Oscar award-winning musical ''Sound of Music'', which was based on the autobiography of Maria Von Trapp in 1949. Changes were made to suit the local setting, and the film avoids politics altogether; the film ends with the marriage of Maria and the Captain. The film was shot in picturesque hill country areas capturing the natural attractions of the island. Somaratne Dissanayake
Somaratne Dissanayake is a Sri Lankan film director, Screenwriter and Producer. He is the Chairman of Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation and the president of the Film Makers Guild of Sri Lanka (FMG). He won the Peace prize of Chicago International Children's Film Festival and bronze award for Independent Theatrical Feature Films at Worldfest Houston for his debut film, '' Saroja'' (2000). In 2007, he received Presidential award for directing '' Samanala Thatu'' (2006). Biography Somaratne abandoned his life in Australia to pursue a career in film. Ashan Dias ( Sinhala: අෂාන් ඩයස්; born 31 May 1981) is an actor in Sri Lankan cinema. Started as a newscaster in MBC Networks, Dias turned to be a character actor with several critically acclaimed roles in films such as ''Alimankada'', ''Sarigama'' and ''Vijayaba Kollaya''. Pooja Gauthami Umashankar, mononymously known as Pooja, is an Indian-Sri Lankan actress, who has primarily appeared in Tamil, Sinhala and Malayalam language films.
