Tourism Corporation Khyber Pakhtunkhwa set up as a limited company in 1991 to develop Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa's tourism potential. It offers a variety of services in key tourist sites in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, as well as visits to attend the Shandur Polo Festival as well as to famous Buddhist monasteries like Takht-i-Bhai and Peshawar's old city historical sites like Sethi Mohallah. Objectives TCKP has been assigned to: *Promote and develop the tourism industry of the province by involving both the private and public sectors. *Fully protect and preserve the culture, arts, history, heritage - both tangible & intangible, traditions, environment and biodiversity of the target areas. *Develop the socio-economic conditions of the people and areas having tourism potential. *Gradually and systematically identify and develop all the existing and potential areas for attracting domestic and international tourists. *Make TCKP a self-financing organisation. Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (; ps, خېبر پښتونخوا; Urdu, Hindko: خیبر پختونخوا) commonly abbreviated as KP or KPK, is one of the four provinces of Pakistan. Located in the northwestern region of the country, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is the smallest province of Pakistan by land area and the third-largest province by population after Punjab and Sindh. Shandur Polo Festival
Shandur Polo Festival () is a sports festival held annually from 7th to 9th July in Shandur Polo Ground, Ghizer, Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. The polo tournament is played between the teams of Gilgit-Baltistan Districts and Chitral District, under freestyle rules. Organized and financed by Gilgit-Baltistan Government. The tournament is held at Shandur Top which is the world highest polo ground at an altitude of 3,700 meters (the pass itself is at 3,800 meters). The festival also includes folk music, dancing and a camping village is set up. The polo tournament is featured in the first episode of ''Himalaya with Michael Palin''. History Polo is an equestrian sport first played in Central Asia in 6th century BC. Takht-i-Bahi
Takht-i-Bahi (Persian/ ur, , translation=throne of the water spring), is an Indo-Parthian archaeological site of an ancient Buddhist monastery in Mardan, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. The site is considered among the most important relics of Buddhism in all of what was once Gandhara, and has been "exceptionally well-preserved." The monastery was founded in the 1st century CE,''Takht-i-Bahi'', UNESCO Office, Islamabad, Pakistan, 2002 and was in use until the 7th century. The complex is regarded by archaeologists as being particularly representative of the architecture of Buddhist monastic centers from its era. Takht-i-Bahi was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1980. Etymology A monastery under the domain of Purusapura which was also a center for Buddhist learning, the origin of the name Takht-i-Bahi is uncertain. Sethi Mohallah
Sethi Mohallah ( ur, سیٹھی محلہ), sometimes called Sethian Mohallah, is an old and traditionally arranged neighbourhood in the old city of Peshawar, Pakistan. The mohallah contains seven South Asian mansions built by the Sethi family that were built in a style reminiscent of Central Asia with elaborate wooden carvings. The houses were completed in the late 19th century. Background The Sethis were a Hindu trader family from Punjab, who migrated from Jhelum to Peshawar in the early 19th century. They relied on local as well as international trade – their connections went as far as Russia and Central Asia. Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation
Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation or PTDC ( ur, ) is an organization of the Government of Pakistan. PTDC is governed by the Board of Directors and provides transportation to various areas and owns and runs several motels across the country. It was incorporated on 30 March 1970. Sayed Zulfiqar Abbas Bukhari is serving as the Chairman of the organization. In 2018, the British Backpacker Society ranked Pakistan as the top country for adventure travel destination. In response to the ranking, the Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation introduced a visa on arrival system for tourists visiting Pakistan from 24 countries, with the Managing Director of the Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation stating that the ranking was a "huge honour" for Pakistan. In 2017, tourism contributed around $19.4 billion to Pakistan's economy, according to World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC). Within a decade, WTTC expects it to rise to $36.1 billion.
