Sargent County, North Dakota
Sargent County is a county in the U.S. state of North Dakota. Its county seat is Forman, and its most populous city is Gwinner. The county is named in honor of Homer E. Sargent, a 19th-century general manager of the Northern Pacific Railroad Company. The county spans an agricultural region between the James River and Red River valleys in southeastern North Dakota dotted with various sloughs, lakes, and hills. As of the 2020 census, the population was 3,862. It is the 29th-most populous county in North Dakota, and was the original home of the Bobcat Company, a manufacturer of farm and construction equipment that still produces a large number of skid-steer loaders at its facility in Gwinner. Sargent is a small unincorporated community located in the eastern corner of Matagorda County, Texas, United States. Sargent is a fishing, boating, and water sports community with a variable population, as most of its inhabitants are weekend commuters from larger cities such as Houston, Austin, and San Antonio. Sargent is on Farm Road 457, five miles northwest of the Gulf of Mexico and twenty-four miles southeast of Bay City in the eastern corner of Matagorda County. Approximately 501 permanent residents live in the Sargent area, while on holiday weekends the population may swell to as high as 5,000. Sargent is a ghost town located in central California on the Santa Clara- San Benito County border. The largest portion of the town was on the Santa Clara County, or north, side of the county line. It is 150 feet above mean sea level. It appeared on 1950s Thomas Brothers maps but has dropped off the company's 21st century maps. The former town site is located alongside US 101 at the current location of a sugar beet loading conveyor along the Union Pacific Railroad track west of US 101. The feature appears on a variety of railroad maps from the 1930s to present and may have been a passenger train stop at some point in history. The location is named for James P. Sargent, Nebraska
Sargent is a city in Custer County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 525 at the 2010 census. History Sargent was laid out in 1883 by future Governor Ezra P. Savage. Mrs. Ruth Sherman established a post office in 1879. The office was located in a soddy one half mile east of the now corporate limits of town. She chose the name "Sargent" in honor of her close friends, Mr. and Mrs. E.D. Sargent of Streator, IL. J.K. Spacht built the first store in what is now Sargent, in July 1883, in the middle of a wheat field. After establishment of this general store, Mr. Spacht was able to persuade Mrs. Sherman to let him move her post office to his store if the name would remain "Sargent".
