Saraswati Pratikshya ( ne, सरस्वती प्रतीक्षा ) is a writer known for her novel ''Nathiya'' published in 2018. Before writing the novel, she had published three poetry books: ''Yadhyapi Prashnaharu'' (collection of poems, 2005), ''Bimbaharuko Kathaghara'' (Ccollection of poems, 2009) and ''Bagi Sarangi'' (collection of poems, 2012). Nathiya (novel)
''Nathiya'' () is a 2018 Nepali novel by Saraswati Pratikshya. The book portrays the suffering of the Badi women of Sudurpashchim region of Nepal. It was released on 3 February 2018 by Book-Hill Publication and was shortlisted for the Madan Puraskar. It is the first novel of the writer who had previously published three anthologies of poems. The book was launched on February 3, 2018 jointly by Uma Devi Badi, a Badi activist, writer Narayan Wagle and journalist Yashoda Timsina on the premises of Nepal Academy. Synopsis The book is based on the life of women from Badi community from 1980 (2036 BS) to 1990 (2046 BS). The book highlights the sufferings of Badi women living in northwestern part of Dang valley. The Badi women had to resort to prostitution after the fall of Rana regime in Nepal. Pratikshya decided to write the book after seeing the Badi people protesting before Singha Durbar in the news. Badi People
Badi ( ne, बादी) is a Hill Dalit community in Nepal. The 1854 Nepalese Muluki Ain (Legal Code) categorized Badi as "Impure and Untouchable (''Pani Na Chalne'')" category. Badi are categorized under "Hill Dalit" among the 9 broad social groups, along with Damai, Sarki, Kami and Gaine by the Government of Nepal. 'Badi' means ''Vadyabadak'', one who plays musical instruments, in Sanskrit. Sometimes called untouchables among the untouchables, they support their impoverished families through daily wages and fishing, woodcutting and making musical instruments. The Madan Puraskar ( ne, मदन पुरस्कार) is a literary honor in Nepal which Madan Puraskar Guthi confers annually for an outstanding book in the Nepali language published within the calendar year. It is considered the most prestigious literature award in Nepal. It is awarded on the day of Ghatasthapana every year alongside Jagadamba Shree Puraskar. Sarubhakta
Saru Bhakta ( ne, सरुभक्त) is the pen name of Bhakta Raj Shrestha, a celebrated Nepalese playwright, novelist, songwriter and poet and a winner of Madan Puraskar, one of the most prestigious literary awards in Nepal. Biography He was born to Ganesh Bahadur Shrestha and Laxmi Shrestha in Bag Bazaar, Pokhara, Nepal on 12 manshir 2012 BS. He studied in Gandaki Boarding School, Lamachaur. He completed his SLC level education from Rashtriya Secondary School (then Rashtriya Multiple School). He then received an IA degree from Amrit Science College, Kathmandu. He received his Bachelor degree from Prithvi Narayan Campus, Pokhra and received Master's degree from Tribhuvan University. He started writing around 1978. Thakali People
The Thakali are an ethnolinguistic group originating from the Thak Khola region of Mustang District in the Dhaulagiri zone of Nepal. Thak-sat-se is the traditional area of the Thakali community, which lies over Mustang District, the valley of the Kali Gandaki river in western Nepal. According to the 2001 census, Thakali population of around 12,973 constituted only 0.06% of Nepal's population. As per the 2011 Nepal census, there are 13,215 Thakali people in Nepal.
