Sarankhola is a ''mauza'' (a small group of villages) in Dakhin Khali Union, Sarankhola Upazila of Bagerhat District, on the northeastern edge of the Sundarbans forest in Bangladesh. According to the 2011 Bangladesh census, the mauza had 2,902 households and a population of 11,623. The populace consists of a majority of Muslims and a small minority of Hindus. Sarankhola ( bn, শরণখোলা) is an upazila of Bagerhat District in the Division of Khulna Division, Khulna, Bangladesh. Sarankhola was formed as a Thana in 1907. A major part of the upazila belongs to the Sundarbans. Geography Sarankhola is located at . It has 28,581 households and total area 756.60 km2. It is bounded by Morrelganj upazila on the north, the Bay of Bengal on the south, Mathbaria and Patharghata upazilas on the east, and Mongla upazila on the west. Bagerhat District ( bn, বাগেরহাট, pron: ''bageɾɦaʈ'') is a district in south-western Bangladesh. It is a part of the Khulna Division. Sundarbans
Sundarbans (pronounced ) is a mangrove area in the delta formed by the confluence of the Padma, Brahmaputra and Meghna Rivers in the Bay of Bengal. It spans the area from the Baleswar River in Bangladesh's division of Khulna to the Hooghly River in India's state of West Bengal. It comprises closed and open mangrove forests, land used for agricultural purpose, mudflats and barren land, and is intersected by multiple tidal streams and channels. 2011 Bangladesh Census
In 2011, the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics, conducted a national census in Bangladesh, which provided a provisional estimate of the total population of the country as 142,319,000. The previous decennial census was the 2001 census. Data were recorded from all of the districts and upazilas and main cities in Bangladesh including statistical data on population size, households, sex and age distribution, marital status, economically active population, literacy and educational attainment, religion, number of children etc. Bangladesh and India also conducted their first joint census of areas along their border in 2011. According to the census, Hindus constituted 8.5 per cent of the population as of 2011, down from 9.6 per cent in the 2001 census.
