Sarah McTernan
Sarah McTernan (born 11 March 1994) is an Irish singer-songwriter from Scarriff, County Clare. She is known for taking third place in the The Voice of Ireland (series 4), fourth season of ''The Voice of Ireland'' in April 2015. She represented Ireland in the Eurovision Song Contest 2019, Ireland in the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 with the song "22 (Sarah McTernan song), 22". Early and personal life McTernan is an only child. After graduating in 2011, she took a pre-nursing course in Ennis, County Clare. She then went on to study music technology at Limerick Institute of Technology for several months. She took a break from education and continued to work as a retail employee in Primark, Penneys. She plays guitar, piano and tin whistle. In September 2014, she enrolled in University of Limerick to study Voice and Dance, but had to defer until September 2015. "22" is a 2019 single by Irish singer Sarah McTernan. The song represented Ireland at the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 in Tel Aviv, Israel, after being internally selected by RTÉ, the Irish public broadcaster for the Eurovision Song Contest. The song would manage an 18th place finish in the second semi-final, not qualifying for the Grand Final. Background "22", according to McTernan, is about a woman struggling to move on from her ex. The number 22 talks about her ex's house number, as the singer speaks about "driving by" their house and wanting to get back with her ex, as she feels empty inside. While some have thought that the song was about a crazed stalker, McTernan claims that the song is about her first love. In an interview, RTÉ Head of Delegation Michael Kealy admitted that "22" was instead meant for a male singer, but once hearing McTernan sing the song in a demo, Kealy decided to let McTernan sing the song. Lesley Roy (born 17 September 1986) is an Irish singer-songwriter from Balbriggan, County Dublin Ireland. Roy was signed to an independent Irish label in 2006 followed by a record deal with US label Jive Records. She released her debut album ''Unbeautiful'' in 2008, which was executive produced by Max Martin and which had a top 40 hit with the single Unbeautiful on US radio. The song title was revealed to the public on 31 January 2018, and was composed by O'Shaughnessy as part of a team of ''The Nucleus'' writers and produced by Mark McCabe.
