She sets puzzles for ''The Guardian'', ''The Independent'' (as Anarche), the ''Financial Times'' (as Rosa Klebb), the ''New Statesman'' (as Aranya), and ''The Times'', and advanced cryptics for ''The Listener'' crossword (''The Times''), Enigmatic Variations (''The Daily Telegraph'') and the Inquisitor (''The Independent''). Hayes's clues are often smutty or political and make frequent use of the generic ''she''. Biography Hayes holds an MPhil in Russian and between 1979 and 1997 was a lecturer in Russian studies at the Victoria University of Manchester, where she published ''A Study of English Nautical Loanwords in the Russian Language of the Eighteenth Century''. Sarah Hayes (musician)
Sarah Hayes is a British folk musician and multi-instrumentalist. She is a member of the indie folk band Admiral Fallow and also a solo artist. Hayes was a finalist in BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award for three years in a row (2000–2002) and was nominated for the 2015 Composer of the Year in the Scots Trad Music Awards. Early life Hayes was born on The Wirral, but moved at the age of two and a half to the village of Warkworth in Northumberland. She learnt recorder, piano and the flute. Folk singer Sandra Kerr lived nearby and encouraged Hayes to listen to folk music. Kerr's encouragement was crucial, since there was no interest in the music from Hayes's peer group. Barbara Firth
Barbara Firth (1928-2013) was a British illustrator of children's books, best known for her work on Martin Waddell's ''Little Bear'' books. She won the 1988 Kate Greenaway Medal. Early life Firth was born in Cheshire on 20 September 1928. She enjoyed drawing as a child but had no formal art education. She qualified in pattern cutting at the London College of Fashion. Career She worked for 15 years for ''Vogue (British magazine), Vogue'' as production director on books on crochet, knitting and dressmaking. She moved to Marshall Cavendish and worked on their partworks, and there met Amelia Edwards (publisher), Amelia Edwards who commissioned her to illustrate some non-fiction work including Margaret Lane's ''The Spider''. Sara Hayes (born 1982) is a camogie player, and senior scientist, winner of All Ireland camogie medals in 2002, 2006,2008 and 2009 and 2014, in which year she got married between the All Ireland semi-final and final.
