Sarah Duhamel
Marie Marguerite Sarah Duhamel (March 21, 1873 – April 15, 1926) was a French stage and film comedienne. Career Duhamel was the daughter of an operetta singer and appeared on stage at a very young age. In 1893 she made her debut as a singer with the play Eldorado, and consequently went on a two-year tour through Italy and the South of France. From 1895 on she worked at various revues in Paris. In 1910 she met the film director Romeo Bosetti who worked for Pathé Comica in Nice. She made several short comedy films with Bosetti, her character was called ‘Rosalie’ (in the English-speaking countries ‘Jane’). Later she started working for the company Eclair (La Société française des films et cinématographiques Eclair) where her character was called Pétronille. She was also cast to star with Maurice Schwartz in the Little Moritz series, and with Lucien Bataille in his Casimir comedies. Slapstick is a style of humor involving exaggerated physical activity that exceeds the boundaries of normal physical comedy. Slapstick may involve both intentional violence and violence by mishap, often resulting from inept use of props such as saws and ladders. The term arises from a device developed for use in the broad, physical comedy style known as ''commedia dell'arte'' in 16th-century Italy. The "slap stick" consists of two thin slats of wood, which make a "slap" when striking another actor, with little force needed to make a loud—and comical—sound. , subtitled ', is an opera in four acts by Charles Gounod to a libretto by and Louis Gallet loosely adapted from Alfred de Vigny's historical novel. Performance history ''Cinq-Mars'' was initially performed at the Opéra-Comique on 5 April 1877. The work's reception was lukewarm: "If tadds nothing to the glory of Gounod, neither does it diminish it." The opera ran for 56 performances. Some critics seized on the straddling of the genres of grand opéra and opéra comique; a second edition (Léon Grus, n.d.) contains recitatives for the very few spoken scenes as well as an Act III cantabile for de Thou, written for the La Scala production. Gaston Mardochée Brunswick, better known by his pseudonym Montéhus (9 July 1872 – December 1952), was a French singer-songwriter. He was the writer of such notable songs as "Gloire au 17ème" and "La Butte Rouge". Biography Montéhus was the eldest child of 22 in an impoverished working-class family of Jewish descent. A Child of the Commune Montéhus was born in Paris after the Paris Commune of 1871. According to him, his father Abraham Brunschwig had been among the rebels, but there is no source to verify this claim. Nevertheless, Montéhus was raised in a post-Commune context, which accounts for his commitment to left-wing politics.
