Sarah Crane
Sarah Crane (born 9 September 1972 in Brisbane) is an Australian operatic soprano. Education After attending All Hallows' School in Brisbane, Crane graduated in 1997 from the Queensland Conservatorioum of Music and received the Brisbane Lord Mayor's Performing Arts Fellowship. That year, Crane sang in the Australian premiere of Elliot Goldenthal's '' Fire Water Paper: A Vietnam Oratorio''. In 1997, Crane won Opera Foundation Australia's 1997 Lady Galleghan Memorial Encouragement Award, the German Opera Award and the Australian regional final of the Metropolitan Opera Award which enabled her to be a finalist in the 1998 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions in New York. In 1998 she received the American Institute of Musical Studies Award from Opera Foundation Australia which gave her the opportunity to study in Graz, Austria. Hansel And Gretel (opera)
''Hansel and Gretel'' (German: ') is an opera by nineteenth-century composer Engelbert Humperdinck, who described it as a ' (fairy-tale opera). The libretto was written by Humperdinck's sister, Adelheid Wette, based on the Grimm brothers' fairy tale "Hansel and Gretel". It is much admired for its folk music-inspired themes, one of the most famous being the "" ("Evening Benediction") from act 2. The idea for the opera was proposed to Humperdinck by his sister, who approached him about writing music for songs that she had written for her children for Christmas based on "Hansel and Gretel". Fidelio
''Fidelio'' (; ), originally titled ' (''Leonore, or The Triumph of Marital Love''), Op. 72, is Ludwig van Beethoven's only opera. The German libretto was originally prepared by Joseph Sonnleithner from the French of Jean-Nicolas Bouilly, with the work premiering at Vienna's Theater an der Wien on 20 November 1805. The following year, Stephan von Breuning helped shorten the work from three acts to two. After further work on the libretto by Georg Friedrich Treitschke, a final version was performed at the Kärntnertortheater on 23 May 1814. By convention, both of the first two versions are referred to as ''Leonore''. Theater Basel
Theater Basel is the municipal theatre of the city of Basel, Switzerland, which is home to the city's opera and ballet companies. Bruno Maderna (21 April 1920 – 13 November 1973) was an Italian conductor and composer. The German libretto by Wilhelm August Wohlbrück (Marschner's brother-in-law) is based on the play ''Der Vampir oder die Totenbraut'' (1821) by Heinrich Ludwig Ritter, which itself was based on the short story ''The Vampyre'' (1819) by John Polidori. ''Ariodante'' ( HWV 33) is an opera seria in three acts by George Frideric Handel. The anonymous Italian libretto was based on a work by Antonio Salvi, which in turn was adapted from Canti 4, 5 and 6 of Ludovico Ariosto's ''Orlando Furioso''. Each act contains opportunities for dance, originally composed for dancer Marie Sallé and her company. The opera was first performed in the Covent Garden Theatre, London, on 8 January 1735. ''Ariodante'' opened Handel's first season at Covent Garden and successfully competed against the rival Opera of the Nobility, supported by the Prince of Wales.
