Sara Carrigan
Sara Carrigan (born 7 September 1980 in Gunnedah, New South Wales) is a professional cyclist from Australia, who commenced her cycling career in 1996 at the age of fifteen and is currently a member of the Belgian Lotto–Belisol Ladiesteam. She was formerly a member of Professional cycling Team, ''Van Bemmelen – AA Drink'' (NED). She lives in Nerang in Queensland and is a member of the Gold Coast Cats cycling club. She graduated from Somerset College in 1998 and completed her tertiary education at Griffith University. Her greatest success as a road cyclist has been in the 2004 Summer Olympics Women's Road race where she won the gold medal. With a few laps to the finish Carrigan crossed a gap to the leading group to join fellow Australian cyclist, Oenone Wood. At the start of the final lap Carrigan broke away, with only Judith Arndt of Germany following, leaving Wood to successfully distract the rest in the following group, allowing her to win the gold medal. Gunnedah, New South Wales
Gunnedah is a town in north-eastern New South Wales, Australia and is the seat of the Gunnedah Shire local government area. In the the town recorded a population of 9,726. Gunnedah is situated within the Liverpool Plains, a fertile agricultural region, with 80% of the surrounding shire area devoted to farming. 2007 Bay Classic Series
The 2007 Bay Classic Series was a series of criterium road cycling races held from 3 to 7 January 2007 around the west of Port Phillip Bay in Victoria, Australia. The men's stages were approximately one-hour criteriums (45 minutes plus 10 laps) with three sprints at 15-minute intervals. The women's stages were approximately 45-minute criteriums (30 minutes plus 10 laps) with two sprints at 15-minute intervals. Points were awarded to the first 10 riders at the finish (12, 10, 8 to 1). Points were awarded in the intermediate sprints to the first three places (3, 2 & 1 points) towards a separate sprint classification. A team classification was calculated from the points of the highest ranked three riders in each team of five. Australian National Road Race Championships
The Australian National Road Race Championships, are held annually with an event for each category of bicycle rider: Men, Women & under 23 riders. The event also includes the Australian National Time Trial Championships since 2002. The Australian Championships were officially known as the Scody Australian Open Road Cycling Championships from 1999 to 2010, taking the name of their main sponsor. This changed to the Mars Cycling Australia Road National Championships from 2011 but they are more commonly referred to as ''The Nationals''. The under 23 championships were introduced in 2001. Note that these results do not currently include the senior and junior amateur road race championships that were held prior to the open era.
