Sara Ballantyne (cyclist)
Sara Ballantyne (born October 14, 1960) is an American former professional cross-country mountain biker. See most notably finished second at the 1990 UCI Cross-country World Championships. She also won the 1991 UCI XCO World Cup and the 1989 national XCO championships. She was inducted into the Mountain Bike Hall of Fame in 1992 and the United States Bicycling Hall of Fame The United States Bicycling Hall of Fame, located in Davis, California, is a private 501c3 non-profit organization formed to preserve and promote the sport of cycling. Cross-country Cycling
Cross-country (XC) cycling is a discipline of mountain biking. Cross-country cycling became an Olympic sport in 1996 and is the only form of mountain biking practiced at the Olympics. Terrain Cross-country cycling is defined by the terrain on which it is performed. XC courses and trails consist of a mix of rough forest paths and singletrack (also referred to as doubletrack depending on width), smooth fireroads, and even paved paths connecting other trails.
