Saqr Ghobash (born 1952) is an Emirati politician. He has been President of the Federal National Council since 2019. Previously he served as minister of labor and UAE ambassador to USA. The Federal National Council (FNC) ( ar, المجلس الوطني الإتحادي, ''al-Majlis al-Watani al-Ittihadi'') of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is an advisory quasi-parliamentary body in the UAE. The FNC consists of 40 members. Twenty of the members are indirectly elected by the hand-picked 12% of Emirati citizens who have voting rights through an electoral college, while the other twenty are appointed by the rulers of each emirate. According to Reuters, "the process of selecting the people who can either elect or be elected is opaque." The first election for half the members of the FNC took place in 2006. Members of the FNC serve 4-year terms. The last election for the indirectly elected members took place on 5 October 2019, and the next election is to be held in October 2023. Amal Al Qubaisi
Amal Al Qubaisi (born 18 October 1969) was the speaker of the United Arab Emirates Federal National Council (FNC) from 2015 to 2019. She was first female leader of a national assembly in the United Arab Emirates and the Arab world. Before holding the position she was the chairwomen of the Abu Dhabi Education Council. Career and education In 2000, Al Qubaisi earned her Ph.D. in Architectural Engineering from the University of Sheffield in the United Kingdom and holds the world’s only doctoral degree on the conservation of the UAE’s architectural heritage. She became an assistant professor of architecture at UAE University in 2000 which she held until 2006. As an architect, she has worked with UNESCO to document and preserve more than 350 historical sites in the UAE including Al Jahili and Al Hosn Forts.
