Sapore Di Sale
"Sapore di sale" ( It. for "Taste of salt") is a song written and originally recorded by Italian singer Gino Paoli, in 1963. Background As its composer also corroborated, "Sapore di sale" was composed in Capo d'Orlando, Sicily, "in a deserted house near a deserted beach," where Paoli was to hold concerts in a dance hall with his band and the venue's owner invited them to extend their stay for a fortnight. At the time, Paoli was married to Anna Fabbri but was carrying on an affair with young actress Stefania Sandrelli, the affair resulting in the birth of daughter Amanda Sandrelli. As Sandrelli claimed, "Sapore di sale" was inspired by her. Production The song was recorded in Rome in 1963, on an arrangement by Ennio Morricone who also conducted the orchestra. Gato Barbieri performed the sax solo. Release The song was released as a single in 1963 by RCA Italiana. Paoli entered the Cantagiro music festival with it. Gino Paoli
Gino Paoli (; born 23 September 1934 in Monfalcone) is an Italian singer-songwriter. He is a seminal figure who has written a number of songs widely regarded as classics in Italian popular music, including: " Il cielo in una stanza", "Che cosa c'è", " Senza fine", "Quattro amici al bar" and " Sapore di sale". Biography Paoli was born in Monfalcone, a little town near Trieste, but moved to Genoa at a young age. After several different jobs, he was signed to Ricordi with friends and fellow musicians Luigi Tenco and Bruno Lauzi. His first success was the single "La Gatta", which has been used in Italian language teaching classes in American middle schools and high schools. "Il cielo in una stanza" was composed in 1959. According to Paoli, the lyrics came to him while lying on a brothel bed. Gazing at the purple ceiling, he thought, "Love can grow at any moment at any place". Cantagiro
Cantagiro was an Italian summer song contest held from 1962 to 1972 and 1990 to 1993. It featured three categories, A for famous artists, B for newcomers and C for groups. The creator of the competition was Ezio Radaelli. The name of the festival was a reference to the bicycle race Giro d'Italia, and, as the Giro, Cantagiro was organized as a stage race consisting of eleven or twelve daily stages, each set in a different city. A peculiar characteristic of the festival was that, while traveling between one stage and the other, singers were required to travel in an open car, to be at the disposal of the crowd of fans, otherwise risking fines or disqualification from the competition; accordingly the travel usually resolved into a huge crowd, with fans waiting their idols in every corner of the path. Leandro "Gato" Barbieri (November 28, 1932 – April 2, 2016) was an Argentine jazz tenor saxophonist who rose to fame during the free jazz movement in the 1960s and is known for his Latin jazz recordings of the 1970s. His nickname, Gato, is Spanish for "cat". Biography Born to a family of musicians, Barbieri began playing music after hearing Charlie Parker's "Now's the Time". Stefania Sandrelli (born 5 June 1946) is an Italian actress, famous for her many roles in the ''commedia all'Italiana'', starting from the 1960s.
