Santos Ortega
Santos Edward Ortega (June 30, 1899 – April 10, 1976) was an American actor and comedian. He was best known for playing Will Hughes in ''As the World Turns'', taking over from Will Lee, who had played the role from the first episode on April 2, 1956 to May 31, 1956. Ortega continued in the role until his death in 1976. Biography Early life Ortega was born in New York City on June 30, 1899, to parents Rafael (born in Venezuela and of Spanish descent) and Isabella (née Corbett, from Ireland) Ortega. Rafael Ortega was a cigar maker by trade, which may have influenced his son's habit of cigar smoking throughout his career. Ortega initially had aspirations of joining the priesthood and studied briefly at the St. Joseph's Seminary of the De La Salle Christian Brothers in Pocantico Hills, New York, but changed his mind after landing a series of small acting roles in a series of Broadway productions. Hugh Marlowe (born Hugh Herbert Hipple; January 30, 1911May 2, 1982) was an American film, television, stage and radio actor. Early life Marlowe was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was born Hugh Herbert Hipple. He was of primarily English ancestry, his family having been in what is now the northeastern United States since the early colonial period. Hipple had several ancestors on the Mayflower, through his father he was descended from Myles Standish through Standish's son Alexander Standish and he was also descended from Isaac Allerton and Isaac Allerton Jr. and American Revolutionary war hero Ichabod Alden through whom he is descended from John Alden. Through his mother he was descended from John Endecott. Broadcast weekdays on CBS Radio from 1943 to 1955, the series was adapted into ''The Edge of Night'' which ran on television for an additional 30 years. ''The Big Story'' is an American radio and television crime drama which dramatized the true stories of real-life newspaper reporters. The only continuing character was the narrator, Bob Sloane. Radio Sponsored by Pall Mall cigarettes, the program began on NBC Radio on April 2, 1947. With Lucky Strike cigarettes sponsoring the last two seasons, it was broadcast until March 23, 1955. The radio series was top rated, rivaling Bing Crosby's ''Philco Radio Time''. Produced by Barnard J. Prockter, the shows were scripted by Gail Ingram, Arnold Pearl and Max Ehrlich. Tom Vietor and Harry Ingram directed the series. Gail and Harry Ingram were husband and wife. The theme was taken from ''Ein Heldenleben'' ("A Hero's Life"), a tone poem by Richard Strauss. ''Suspense'' is a radio drama series broadcast on CBS Radio from 1940 through 1962. One of the premier drama programs of the Golden Age of Radio, was subtitled "radio's outstanding theater of thrills" and focused on suspense thriller-type scripts, usually featuring leading Hollywood actors of the era. Approximately 945 episodes were broadcast during its long run, and more than 900 still exist. ''Suspense'' went through several major phases, characterized by different hosts, sponsors, and director/producers. ''The Mysterious Traveler'' was an anthology radio series, a magazine, and a comic book. All three featured stories which ran the gamut from fantasy and science fiction to straight crime dramas of Mystery fiction, mystery and suspense. Radio Written and directed by Robert Arthur, Jr., Robert Arthur and David Kogan, the radio series was sponsored by Adam Hats. ''Hannibal Cobb'' is an American old-time radio detective drama. It was broadcast on ABC from January 9, 1950 until May 11, 1951. Format Hannibal Cobb was a detective who "took an intense personal interest in those for whom he worked." Charlie Chan
Charlie Chan is a fictional Honolulu police detective created by author Earl Derr Biggers for a series of mystery novels. Biggers loosely based Chan on Hawaiian detective Chang Apana. The benevolent and heroic Chan was conceived as an alternative to Yellow Peril stereotypes and villains like Fu Manchu. Many stories feature Chan traveling the world beyond Hawaii as he investigates mysteries and solves crimes. Chan first appeared in Biggers' novels and then was featured in a number of media.
