Located in central Lisbon, Santo António is east of Campo de Ourique, north of Santa Maria Maior and Misericórdia, west of Arroios, and south of Avenidas Novas. The Marquis of Pombal Square ( pt, Praça do Marquês de Pombal) is an important roundabout in the city of Lisbon, Portugal. It is located between the Avenida da Liberdade (Liberty Avenue) and the Eduardo VII Park in the former parish of Coração de Jesus and in the quarter of Santo António. The square is the radiating point for various important avenues: Liberdade, Duque de Loulé and Fontes Pereira de Melo, as well as the streets Braamcamp and Joaquim António de Aguiar. In the 20th century, it was acquired by the Spanish government and became the Embassy of Spain in Portugal. Monument To The Restorers
The Monument to the Restorers ( pt, Monumento aos Restauradores) is a monument located in Restauradores Square in Lisbon, Portugal. The monument memorializes the victory of the Portuguese Restoration War. The war, which saw the end of the House of Habsburg and the rise of the House of Braganza, lasted from 1640 to 1668. The monument was designed by António Tomás da Fonseca and erected in 1886. History The was established in 1861 as reaction to groups defending Iberian federalism. The patriotic society was founded by Feliciano de Andrade Moura, a Lisbon merchant, and soon attracted notable figures of Portuguese society, such as Alexandre Herculano and Anselmo Braamcamp Freire. Restauradores Square ( pt, Praça dos Restauradores) is a public square in the city of Lisbon, Portugal. It is located at the southeast end of Avenida da Liberdade (Lisbon), Avenida da Liberdade, near Rossio, Rossio square. Details The square is dedicated to the restoration of the independence of Portugal in 1640, after 60 years of Spain, Spanish domination. The obelisk in the middle of the square, inaugurated in 1886, carries the names and dates of the battles fought during the Portuguese Restoration War, in 1640.
