Church of Santa Maria della Neve ( it, Chiesa di Santa Maria della Neve) is a Roman Catholic church in the town of Pisogne, in the province of Brescia, part of the region of Lombardy, northern Italy. Walls of the interior contains fragments of the cycle of frescos by Romanino depicting scenes from the Passion of Christ. History The church of Santa Maria della Neve was built at the end of the 15th century at the crossroads of the two main suburban roads and the trade axis, namely the 'Valeriana' road leading to the Alpine Pass and the road leading to the mines and the Trompia Valley. This place was a busy transit point and this building was a very popular Marian shrine. For this reason, in the early 1630s, it was completely renovated: two porticos connected to the central body for the reception and welcoming of pilgrims, and a terminal chapel on the south portico. Santa Maria della Neve is a now-deconsecrated, former Roman-Catholic church, located in Vicolo della Neve #5 in Bologna, region of Emilia Romagna, Italy. History A church at the site was first erected in 1479 to house a Marian image painted on the outer walls of the city at that time. Initially, the church was called ''Madonna dell'Orto''. The present structure was built in 1661 and renamed by the Roman Confraternity of the Gonfalone. The confraternity was involved in the ransoming of Christians in Saracen hands. Between 1632 and 1785, twenty Bolognese were liberated by this group. Their names and the chains putatively used during their imprisonment were moved to the church of San Girolamo della Certosa. In 1796–1808, the Napoleonic forces expropriated the property. Most of the movable artworks were moved to Casa del Clero in the monastery of Sant'Agostino. History The first documentation of the monastery is from 1240, when an eremitic female Augustinian monastery was founded at the site. In 1340, documents confirm that Bishop Francesco da Cingoli, with the posthumous endowment by Benvenuta di Duccio, widow of Francesco Morelli di Candeli, had granted funds to build a proper monastery on this site that was near the ''Strada Romana''.
