Santa Maria Assunta is Roman Catholic parish church located in the frazione of Cinghianello, outside of the town of Polinago in the region of Emilia-Romagna, Italy. History A church at this panoramic site is documented since 1073, patronized likely by Matilda of Canossa Matilda of Tuscany ( it, Matilde di Canossa , la, Matilda, ; 1046 – 24 July 1115 or Matilda of Canossa after her Count of Canossa, ancestral castle of Canossa), also referred to as ("the Great Countess"), was a member of the House of Canossa ...; but the present structure dates from 1510, as recalled in an inscription on the main portal. The present facade, with three orders and a central oculus, was erected only in 1842. It underwent a major restoration in 1891, with the erection of a new bell-tower at the site of a prior campanile. Luigi Manzini (1805–1866) was an Italian painter of the Neoclassicism, Neoclassic and Romantic art, Romantic periods, active mainly in and around his native Modena. Biography He painted portraits, sacred subjects, and scenic designs. He studied at the Accademia Atestina and the Collegio San Carlo di Modena. He painted portraits of Francesco IV d'Este for the Palazzo Ducale of Modena, Palazzo Ducale.
