Santa Fe, Texas
Santa Fe () is a city in Galveston County, Texas, United States. It is named for the Santa Fe Railroad (now part of BNSF Railway) which runs through the town alongside State Highway 6. The population of Santa Fe at the 2020 census was 12,735. History In 1877, the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railway was built through the western part of Galveston county. By the turn of the century, three small, unincorporated towns had formed along the railway: Alta Loma, Arcadia, and Algoa. The Santa Fe Independent School District which was named after the railway, was established shortly afterward to serve the area. In the mid-1970s, the neighboring city of Hitchcock attempted to annex an area in eastern Alta Loma known as the Morningview neighborhood. Gulf, Colorado And Santa Fe Railway
The Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railway (GC&SF) was chartered in Texas in 1873 to build a railroad from Galveston, Texas, to Santa Fe, New Mexico. By 1886, it had built from Galveston to a junction in Temple, Texas, which was founded by the company. From Temple, one line went north to Dallas and Fort Worth via a junction in Cleburne, while a second line extended northwest and terminated near Coleman, Texas. That year, the GC&SF was purchased by the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe (ATSF), which would use the GC&SF for decades as an operating subsidiary pursuant to Article X of the Texas Constitution, which required railroads in Texas to be headquartered in the state. 2018 Santa Fe High School Shooting
On May 18, 2018, a school shooting occurred at Santa Fe High School in Santa Fe, Texas, United States, in the Houston metropolitan area. Hitchcock is a city in Galveston County, Texas, Galveston County, Texas, United States. The population was 7,301 at the 2020 United States census, 2020 census. History Hitchcock was created as a station of the Santa Fe Railroad, railroad between Galveston, Texas, Galveston and Houston in 1873 and around the turn of the 20th century, it became a vegetable shipping center. The settlement's economy crashed in the 1930s after insect plagues in the surrounding areas, and the area stayed impoverished until the establishment of Camp Wallace an anti-aircraft training base and the Naval Air Station Hitchcock at the beginning of World War II.
