	Santa Elena, Entre Ríos Santa Elena is a small town located on the left side of the Parana River, in the North of Entre Rios, Argentina. It has beautiful beaches and it is also one of the best places to go fishing in Entre Rios, in fact, Santa Elena is known as “The Fishing Paradise”. Every year, a fishing contest takes place by the month of November, which is called Fiesta Provincial del Armado Entrerriano. History The original location founded in this area was named Nohcacab and was inhabited during the Classic Maya period (600-1000 A.C.). At the conquest an ''encomienda'', that is a tribute-paying small community with an ethnically mixed population which included Spanish people, ''criollos,'' mestizos and mulattos, was established. 	Santa Elena (Spanish Florida) Santa Elena, a Spanish settlement on what is now Parris Island, South Carolina, was the capital of Spanish Florida from 1566 to 1587. It was established under Pedro Menéndez de Avilés, the first governor of Spanish Florida. There had been a number of earlier attempts to establish colonies in the area by both the Spanish and the French, who had been inspired by the earlier accounts by Chicora and Hernando de Soto of rich territories in the interior. Menéndez's Santa Elena settlement was intended as the new capital of the Spanish colony of La Florida, shifting the focus of Spanish colonial efforts north from St. Augustine, which had been established in 1565 to oust the French from their colony of Fort Caroline. Bordered by San Roque and Jesus Dela Peña, Sta. Elena is said to be one of the first towns established by the Augustinians in what was known as the Marikina Valley and home for the heritage sites such as the Our Lady of the Abandoned Parish and the Kapitan Moy Residence. History Records have shown that the barrio has traced its beginning in the year 1687, when the Jesuit missionaries crossed the river from Jesus dela Peña, in search for a place to build a new church.
