Santa Cruz do Capibaribe is a Brazilian municipality in the State of Pernambuco. It is the third largest city in the mesoregion of Agreste of Pernambuco with a population of 109,897 inhabitants in 2020. It has 335.309 km² (208.5 square miles) of total area and it is located about 185.7 km (115.4 miles) from the capital Recife. The city is famous for its textile industry together with Caruaru and Toritama. Toritama
Toritama is a municipality in the Brazilian state of Pernambuco, in the mesoregion (Brazil), mesoregion of Agreste Pernambucano. It is located at an altitude of 349 m, and it is 153 km west of the Recife, capital Recife. In 2020 it has an estimated population of 46,164 and an area of 25.7 km², which makes it the smallest municipality of Pernambuco, if Fernando de Noronha is not taken into account. Toritama is best knowns for its production and sale of textiles, in particular jeans. History In the middle of the 19th century, Toritama was a cattle farm on the left bank of the Capibaribe River. Caatinga
Caatinga (, ) is a type of semi-arid tropical vegetation, and an ecoregion characterized by this vegetation in interior northeastern Brazil. The name "Caatinga" is a Tupi word meaning "white forest" or "white vegetation" (''caa'' = forest, vegetation, ''tinga'' = white). The Caatinga is a xeric shrubland and thorn forest, which consists primarily of small, thorny trees that shed their leaves seasonally.
